Sex offender jailed for going to church

Posted By on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 10:10 AM

David Lineberger, 50, went to church.

Then he was arrested and placed in jail under a $1 million bond.

Why?

Lineberger, according to the Gaston Gazette, is a sex offender.

Gaston County Sheriff’s officers charged Lineberger on Sunday with being at Southminster Presbyterian Church, which is located at 1401 Hoffman Road, Gastonia.

The church has a nursery on premises and also a weekday school, according to the warrant affidavit.

Lineberger was convicted in 1995 and served a 70-month sentence. He also was ordered to stay on the sex offender registry a minimum of 10 years.

Sex with animals can lead to penile cancer

Posted By on Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 11:34 AM

Rodell Vereen, the South Carolina man who was convicted of having sex with a neighbor's horse, had better go to the doctor.

A recent study shows that men who have sex with animals are twice as likely to develop penile cancer.

Men who had sex with animals also reported a higher incidence of sexually transmitted diseases.

Of the 118 penile cancer patients, 45 percent reported having sex with animals, compared with 32 percent of healthy men, who visited the medical centers for benign conditions, check-ups or cancer prevention. Fifty-nine percent of men who had sex with animals did so for one to five years, while 21 percent continued the behavior, also known as zoophilia, for more than five years. The subjects reported a variety of frequencies for their sex acts, ranging from monthly to daily.

OK, that's just plain gross.

Daisy Dooks hosts its grand opening

Posted By on Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 8:12 AM

Our newest nightlife blogger Megan Henshall checked out the recently opened Daisy Dooks (3049 Scott Futrell Drive), which hosts its grand opening this weekend.

She writes:

Speaking of exposing your eyeballs to things, Daisy Dooks is the new luxury cruise ship of strip clubs that recently opened near the airport. It’s gone and happened, the mega strip club from the Midwest has arrived in Charlotte. Apparently Iowa knows three things: livestock, corn, and the art of the titty bar. All 2,500 (maximum capacity of over 1,400) square feet is dripping with excess in the best possible way.

...

All in, the space can accommodate over 100 dancers, and on peak nights, you will currently find upwards of 50 lovelies twerking it at a time. In case you haven’t yet done that math, that comes to roughly 100 boobs.

Study says sexual harassment is a daily experience for middle and high school students

Posted By on Mon, Nov 7, 2011 at 5:30 PM

As if reading about Herman Cain's ever-growing list of sexual harassment allegations wasn't enough, here comes a report that should disturb anyone with a school-aged child.

CNN reports:

Sexual harassment is part of everyday life in middle and high schools across the country, a new study released on Monday by a nonprofit research organization said, with the vast majority of students who have been harassed, reporting negative effects from it.

The study finds that some kids faced with this kind of behavior skip school and have trouble sleeping.

The findings also showed that girls were more likely than boys to be sexually harassed, both in person and by electronic means. The results also confirm previous research which shows the experiences of girls tended to be more physical and intrusive than for boys.

This report seems to have a direct link to a hazing incident in Clover, S.C.
Last month, the small town was in a tizzy at the allegation that some members of the football team had threatened to sexually assault a player with a broom handle.

Ten players were kicked off the team, the season went down the drain and no charges were filed. Also, the sexual nature of the alleged hazing disappeared from the discussion.

Prosecutor Kevin Brackett told reporters Thursday there was an incident at the school Sept. 19 in the locker room, but nothing as serious as the rumors that spread across the community in the following weeks.

Brackett says there was nothing more than what he called a "bunch of locker room horse play."

No wonder kids are afraid.

A fitting sentence: Man will spend 84 years in prison for rape

Posted By on Wed, Nov 2, 2011 at 9:28 AM

It took a three-day trial to convict a Charlotte man for raping a woman in 2009.

WBTV is reporting that 30-year-old Jarrod Willis will spend 84 years behind bars for the rape.

On March 12, 2009, Willis drove up beside the victim and forced her into his car at gunpoint. He drove to a secluded location and sexually assaulted her before he robbed her.

DNA was collected from the victim and matched to Willis' from a previous felony conviction, according to the release.

This sentence is especially significant in North Carolina where criminals pay a higher price for abusing animals than women.

Seriously, animal abuse is a felony, assault on a female — a misdemeanor. We all love animals, but can the women of N.C. get some love and protection as well.

If the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office, which announced on Tuesday that there will be a team to handle domestic violence cases, continues to get big wins like this, being a woman might be a little safer.

Another delay in the John Edward's sex tape case

Posted By on Tue, Nov 1, 2011 at 1:52 PM

The purported sex tape starring former N.C. Sen. John Edwards and his baby mama Rielle Hunter may never ever come to light. Once again, a hearing about the ownership of the tape has been delayed. Damn!

The Associated Press reported yesterday that the Nov. 7 hearing to determine if former Edwards aide Andrew Young and his wife are in contempt for turning over documents from a civil case to the feds seeking to put Edwards behind bars.

Former Edwards mistress Rielle Hunter sued the Youngs last year to recover personal items that include a purported sex tape she recorded with Edwards as he sought the White House.

Judge Michael Morgan delayed a planned Nov. 7 hearing until January to give more time for a federal judge to decide whether to quash subpoenas from the state court.

The Youngs say they were complying with a secret federal subpoena when they turned over sealed evidence that included a deposition from Edwards.

So what does this mean to looky-lou's like myself (and you reading this)? A longer wait to see what this sex tape is all about.

No. Fair!

TSA to fire worker who left a note about a vibrator

Posted By on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 1:11 PM

A Transportation Security Administration worker probably thought it was a joke when he or she wrote the words, "Get your freak on, girl" and left it in the bag of a passenger traveling through Newark Airport. Big problems.

1. The passenger was a lawyer and a feminist blogger named Jill Filipovic.
2. Filpovic has a Twitter account and a camera (or a smart phone), and took a picture for the world to see.
3. It was a total invasion of privacy.

That worker now has been fired.

The Transportation Security Administration says it will fire a New Jersey baggage screener who left a note that said "Get your freak on girl" in a suitcase containing a sex toy.

TSA spokeswoman Kawika Riley said Friday that the agency personally apologized to the passenger. She says the handwritten note was "highly inappropriate."

It's bad enough that TSA does pat-downs and full body scans, but this is way out of pocket.

The bigger question is, will TSA give Filipovic a gift certificate to North Carolina's Adam & Eve so that she can replace her vibrator?

Movement on the John Edwards case, still no leaked sex tape

Posted By on Wed, Oct 26, 2011 at 12:03 PM

JOHN-EDWARDS.jpg
If you've been following the John Edwards case with us, then you know I'm interested in nothing more than a leak of the sex tape. All of the ethical issues surrounding pretty boy John are pretty much to be expected in this era of political sexcapdes.

Here's what's going on now:

Lawyers for ex-U.S. Sen. John Edwards say the case against him should be dropped because politics influenced the Republican attorney general who indicted him.

At a federal court hearing Wednesday, Politico reported, Edwards' lawyers were expected to argue politics so influenced former Republican U.S. Attorney George Holding in his decision to indict Edwards, a Democrat, that the case should be thrown out.

Holding indicted Edwards, the former North Carolina senator, in June on charges of campaign finance law violations, then announced weeks later he was resigning and running for Congress as a Republican.

Sex and politics make strange bedfellows and the crux of this case is really that Edwards nearly fooled the world into thinking that he was a good husband and family man. Is it political? I'm sure it is partly, but this is America and sex is so dirty here.

Edwards, 58, faces charges he violated campaign finance laws for using funds from his unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign from two wealthy supporters to conceal his pregnant mistress from the public. Prosecutors say the donations exceeded legal limits and amounted to campaign contributions because they were intended to keep the affair secret to preserve his presidential bid.

The payments went toward living, medical and other expenses for videographer Reille Hunter, with whom Edwards had an extramarital affair and a child.

His lawyers say he wanted to hide the affair and Hunter's pregnancy from his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, and that hundreds of thousands of dollars from his wealthy friends went to others, not him, and were gifts.

I'm willing to stand on a shaky limb and say if Edwards had used this money to finance his family's home, he wouldn't have been charged. But the fact that he cheated on his beloved wife, Elizabeth, with Hunter — who some say is the basis for the character Allison Poole in Story of My Life by Jay McInerney—plays a role in this investigation. It's naive to think otherwise.

So, when will the Kim Kardashian-esque leak happen? We continue to wait.

Woman escapes would be teen rapist

Posted By on Tue, Oct 25, 2011 at 9:54 AM

A Gastonia teen was pulled into a bathroom, nearly raped and threatened to be cut. The alleged perpetrator, a 16 year old boy.

Police said Damitri Ojujuan Mitchell, 16, of Hudson Landings Drive, went into the women’s bathroom on Monday night at the school on South New Hope Road, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Police said it is there where Mitchell grabbed a 17-year-old student and assaulted her.

“Damitir grabbed her and put one hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming and tried to unbutton her blue jeans with the other hand,” said Gaston County Police student resource officer J.R. Hamrick in a warrant released in the case.

The warrant states that Damitri told the female not to scream or he would cut her. After screaming and kicking at Damitri, the woman was able to get away and report the incident to police.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with one felony count of second-degree sexual offense, one felony count of second-degree kidnapping and one count of communicating threats.

He was jailed at the Gaston County jail, with bail set at $250,000.

Earlier this year, Hope Circle [A children's advocacy group] Director, Laurie McClure, spoke to the Gaston Gazette about sex crimes involving teens.
Teenagers are being negatively influenced by activities they engage in daily.

“Exposure to violence in video games and Internet pornography has decreased the sensitivity level,” said McClure. “It makes it so that these teenagers with their hormones running amuck, they’re able to get past reservations that they would’ve had in the past about assaulting someone.”

South Carolina catches hell, but umm, it's deserved. Man arrested for having sex in a museum

Posted By on Fri, Oct 21, 2011 at 5:10 PM

Ah, Charleston. Cobblestone roads, great seafood, an ocean breeze and the place you shouldn't go to have sex in a museum.
Especially when you're already and infamous South Carolinian anyway. But that's just what 29-year-old Michael L. Miller did.
According to the Associated Press, Miller, who pleaded guilty three years ago to giving then South Carolina Treasurer Thomas Ravenel cocaine, was caught having sex in a Charleston museum.
Public sex is a thrill for most people, but they really don't trespass to do it.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that 29-year-old Michael L. Miller and a 22-year-old woman were arrested around 3 a.m. Oct. 14 at The Charleston Museum.

Police say the couple told them they met at a nearby bar and went inside the museum after noticing an unlocked door.

Miller told the newspaper in an email Thursday, "What can I say, I get around."

Prosecutors say Miller has completed his probation from his 10-month sentence for providing cocaine to Ravenel, so he won't face additional penalties in that case.
