Re: “Resolved but not resigned to a Trump presidency

I think we are most compelled now to look at our lives through the modest evolutions from which so many have and still evolve.

I impenitently stand on the sturdy shoulders of those whose devotion to change though not violent was still virulent and vituperative. I know the names of god mothers and fathers my own mother and father--whose flesh side of hand bore the scars of hours and hours of unrelenting work in bad conditions though in distinguished and dignified silence still voluminously tore down institutions like this newly proposed national one-- that was meant to do them harm. I have stood in sun, rain, wind, and cold with black community leaders who rallied their folk and other looking folk from all over and dared them to be still while local, county, state and federal leaders unabashedly targeted populations and attempted to undermine basic dignities that lineage blood had shed to attain. I have had my fair share of voter education rallies, donation pickups for clothing pantries, donation dropout to senior citizen high rises and section 8 community dwellers, document reads and signature signs for the unable to do so and have caught myself on occasions stopping just short of begging to hear just one more sage line from one of the most encouraging older mentor men I knew whose AIDs related death so stunned me in my younger adulthood I could hardly go among the many people and agencies he changed over his life because the memories were too painful. I am RESOLVED AND RESIGNED to be and do one thing whatever I and those of a kindred spirit have always donewhatever we can reasonably to destroy what appears to be one of the most openly divisive hate mongering machines to touch down in the free modern election era since Jesse Helms and Robert Byrds forces converged but still even many of that day never thought to give glimpses for presidencies.

In any case, we certainly cannot be trepid souls before and among those whom time has placed us in such proximity. Those who did so much more with so much less. They ALL told us who NEVER to trust AND WHY. We have been empowered. We know what we must do. We have been successful and will be again.

We just have to get past our utter appall and misinterpretation of how soon history can duplicate itself.

Re: “Resolved but not resigned to a Trump presidency

This is politics such as it is. We had a choice between two candidates neither of whom represented what was best for America, and so, once again, we were forced to choose between the lesser of two evils because once again, we found ourselves caught up in the embrace of the partisan political process as if it were out only hope for change. And so it is as long as we are foolish enough to surrender our potential power to one man. I have said this before, and I will say it again. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us much about using our power collectively to bring about real social change, and yet we have forgotten the lessons. King placed little faith in the partisan political process. Instead he showed people how they could work together to make the changes they wanted. It wasn't easy and it didn't happen overnight, but he showed that it was possible. Our hope does not lie with any single person. It does not lie in laws, elections, or ever Supreme Court decisions. It lies in our collective will to do what is necessary, and unless we are willing and take action ourselves, we will fall into the despair of the outcome of elections, and we will wait for another four years to pass so that we can expend all of our energy and squander our faith on the possible outcome of an election. Einstein said that insanity was doing the same thing repeatedly expecting a different outcome. And so here we are writing a tale told by idiots. The rest is silence.

Re: “Charlotte's Most Haunted Places

Does anyone know of apartments in the university area being haunted? My daughter said she saw something tall, dark, with no facial features standing in front of her door. This creeped me out for sure and I know there is no way an intruder got in and out without a trace. I'm just not sure what to make of it.

Re: “Beer tap handles are not items to decorate with

Geez, tough crowd! I came across this article while searching for "repurposing beer tap handle" ideas for a Christmas present I'm considering making for a craft beer lover. (For example, using a favorite liquor/bottle to create a personalized lamp. Though there are lots of repurposed lamps for sale that look more like they're meant for a college dorm, repurposing anything can be very cool, artful, even profitable, if you pay attention to the details.) OK, so anyway, I found this article interesting, and I'm certain there is validity regarding the topic. Regardless, I appreciated the insight - as sometimes it's simply a matter of reading an article like this for folks to be encouraged to behave accordingly. I for one, value understanding more about those cool, hip, "decorations" used to pour my favorite brews. To the person who asked what to do with one he has?? If it doesn't need to be returned to its rightful owner, I'd be happy to create something cool with it. ;)

Re: “Older men, younger boys

At 20 I met a man who had just turned 37 and we fell for each other literally overnight. Not because we had sex, but because we spent all night talking. I was a good student in school who preferred hanging with the teachers asking questions after class to goofing off with my classmates. We were together for 9 years and then I lost him to AIDS-related encephalopathy. During those 9 years he helped me get an education and we bettered our careers enough to buy a house together. I miss him still.
Not every May-December relationship is as healthy as ours was, I admit. But don't assume they are all unhealthy, either. Find out what brought them together, what keeps them together, and what benefits each one brings to the relationship before judging them. As long as the younger man isn't being damaged in some way, I don't see what the fuss is about.

Re: “Woohoo! CL gets named finalist for an AAN award

Did CL everrr do the research on who set up the standards for these ponds? When was the last time they were inspected?

I believe they will likely find it was a Democrat Legislature and Democrat Governor who put them in place.

Re: “District attorney lays out case in decision to not charge officer in Scott shooting

Convicted felon steps from vehicle. Felon has loaded stolen pistol in hand, hammer back and safety off. Felon does not drop pistol after being told 10 times by police to drop it.

Felon gets shot.

There are not many other logical conclusions that didn't involve someone getting shot.

Glad it was the convicted felon with a history of violence and not a police officer.

Don't go to the benefit mentioned. It promotes cultural appropriation. Give the money you'd spend to ocetisakowincamp.org instead. We don't need middlemen. If you're willing to participate in theft of culture, what else are you willing to steal? We're already fighting theft of land and water security. HUGELY disappointed in Charlotte, yet again.

Re: “Are you an emotional slut?

I ask myself two questions:
1. Am I present here and now, with this person on this date?
2. Is my date present here and now, with me?

Or is one or both of us recalling the past, or imagining the future - flinging out past stories, or future wishes at the other person?

We all have stories about the past, and we all imagine a desired future. These are worth sharing and discovering. But a conversation continually "stuck" in the past or the future is a red flag.

Re: “Lunch Break (11/21/16): Anti-Trump protesters march through Uptown; man killed in west Charlotte home invasion

How many of these same protestors will gladly take in the Illegals into their homes? Are they willing to pay for their food, medical, schools?

I'm not. I have enough to take care of. We have 10s of thousands of Vets desperately in need of all kinds of help but are left waiting months for simple VA appointments. Too many are homeless as they cannot find jobs in the Obama Economy.

And these people want us to take in millions of people who don't speak our language, demand we kowtow to their needs and demands, and want to "take back" California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas?

Liberalism is a special kind of stupid.
