Re: “Theater reviews: The Game's Afoot, or Holmes for the Holidays, more

Can I mention that Perry is the worst reviewer that I have ever seen? I mean, time after time I am left wondering if he is simply drunk when he goes to a show. This is insane. Time and time again he mentions things that didn't happen, or recalls events incorrectly - the reviews are slapdash at best, and at worst it's like he was at an entirely different show than the one he's reviewing!

Re: “Q's Harlem dream remains deferred

And it makes sense to insult an entire audience as "altered" and uncouth because a few people had their cellphones out?

Re: “Diana Grisanti's River City is a pleasant surprise

My first time at Actor's Theatre of Charlotte--impressed with the venue. Attended the play River City, as I am interested in supporting new young writers. Unimpressed with the cast--felt the overly "hammed up" acting detracted from the play. A city of Charlotte's size certainly has more professional actors available (or perhaps it was poor directing, and not the actors' fault?). The only exception was the actor who played Mr. Deeley--found him credible in the role, and he did not resort to the overly emotive styles used by the rest of the cast. Will attend another production, to see if this was a one-time disappointment. Hoping to see some productions with a more sophisticated approach to acting and to the social issues dealt with in the plays. I like humor, but the humor in this play bordered on silliness--and seemed to suggest the audience could not handle the racial issues the play was addressing.

Re: “The death of CAST

Lots of background missing here. The board had a legal duty to do what is best in the long term interest not what Mr. Simmons and others (who could have stepped up with donations) want to do in the short term. Sad story that CAST closed but not giving the full story here. As always, people love to trash the board because they fail to understand that role. Serve as an arts board member and see if you still feel the same way!

Re: “The death of CAST

Thank you for this grand explanation of a preventable cultural tragedy for Charlotte. What a clusterf**k. My heart goes out to Michael Simmons. My sympathy's saved for the rest of us who loved CAST.
