This original exhibit features archaeological and historical collections on loan from the Schiele Museum of Natural History, the Inn of the Patriots, and several private collectors. The display includes stone and bone tools, ceramics, basketry, weaponry, and other artifacts that provide insight into how Native Americans utilized natural resources to meet their needs for millennia prior to European contact, and how the clash of the Old World with the New forever changed local Native American cultures. It’s so big you won’t find mere rappers, rockers or acoustic strummers serenading the racers — no, these racers get full-on opera (OK, actually “Xpress Opera,” but we’re splitting hairs). “Round 1 ... Ready ... Party!” Charlotte’s first bar arcade has made it through that milestone first year, so it’s time to throw down. Their first birthday celebration will feature an outdoor arcade; a pop-up market, grub from food trucks like Mel’s BLT Kitchen; and live music from some of Charlotte’s best bands, including Junior Astronomers, The Eyebrows and Modern Primitives. Who would have thought gaming could be so cool? That’s right, Abari did. Funds raised go to the North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue. $5 suggested donation.

This specialty tour examines the role of women in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, and the societal expectations placed on women in Antebellum North Carolina, including Sarah Kaiser Reed, wife of John Reed. The tour will focus on how women lived inside and outside the homestead, and the multiple roles women had to fulfill. Come learn how women defined themselves outside of their gender as teachers, miners, and activists.
