George W. Miller was very likely the half brother of R.M. Miller Jr., and a son of R.M. Miller. Census records list him as "mulatto", and he came to Charlotte with the Miller family in 1866. He was president of the Neptune Volunteer Fire Company, which was housed in quarters owned and operated by R.M. Miller SR. He was known by some as NEPTUNE GEORGE. As R.M. Miller JR was associated with D.A. Tompkins, I can only imagine his unfortunate reluctance to acknowledge their kinship.
