A local look

Area bands turn up the volume

Local bands turned up in droves when they were needed for two events on Feb. 17 and 18 -- The KimNiption Fit at Amos' Southend and the Creative Loafing Presents Jeff Hahne's Homebrew; Winter Harvest 2008 CD Release Party at The Evening Muse.

Volatile Baby, Carmona, Lindy Dobbins and the Red Velvet Manx, Echo Code, Stella Kidd, Luna's Lament and Steel Standing performed to the crowd who showed up to show their support for Luna's Lament guitarist Kim "KimNiption" Karnes who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The seven acts tore through 30-minute sets showcasing some of the wide variety of talent and genres in the Queen City.

The next night, at The Muse, seven acts mixed it up with a variety of singer-songwriters as the CD release party for the Homebrew CD was held amidst the Find Your Muse Open Mic night. Erika Blatnik, Blue Static, Junque Gallery, Masonboro Boys, Nelace, Transmission Fields and The New Familiars performed their singles from the CD and one other song to an overflowing Muse audience.

Thanks go out to all involved, including event organizers Dobbins and Eric-Scott Guthrie, the venues and bands.
