Anjelah Johnson

When: Sat., Sept. 22, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: $32.50
It's not necessarily that comedian Anjelah Johnson has a repertoire of characters that she impersonates well, but rather that she has one that seems to, oddly enough, resonate on some superior level with folks. That character is Bon Qui Qui, a foul-mouthed, easily angered and less than enthused fast-food worker. Johnson also does a good impressions of other working-class denizens, including an Asian nail stylist. But it's Bon Qui Qui that steals the show. Johnson, who has repurposed the character with a singing career and video to match (YouTube: Bon Qui Qui "I'm A Cut You"), came to The Comedy Zone in Charlotte last year. Now, she's moving on up to the larger confines of Ovens Auditorium for a one night-only performance on Sept. 22. Seems her hamburger hussy counterpart has really earned her a rising career in stand-up.
