For once, let’s hand it to the ingénue. Whether she’s thoroughly modern Millie Dillimont, Dorothy in Kansas and Oz, or most recently, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Caroline Bower gives these perky, plucky heroines just a tad more depth than we’re used to. We caught her moonlighting beyond the pale of sugary musicals in Evil Dead: The Musical — and dallying with Ionesco in a Central Avenue storefront! — last summer, planting fresh hope that the fullest flowering of Bower is yet to come.
