Once a cursed spot for businesses, the corner of Fifth and Church streets has become so hot, Hollywood actresses (Jessica Alba and Elizabeth Banks, albeit during the DNC) dine there. Maybe it has something to do with the food: Chef Jamie Lynch makes use of fresh local ingredients and puts a creative twist on the average dish. (Try the NC Grouper.) Or maybe it has something to do with its slickness. The entire space has been revamped into a dramatic, over-the-top spot that's perfect to enjoy a drink (may we recommend the QC Iced Tea?) before hitting the clubs. Anyway, how many places do you know that promote reading the way these folks do? There's an entire novel painted on the ceiling. We applaud the team at 5Church for giving the downtown crowd someplace chic to go besides the EpiCentre and the College Street corridor.
