Bizarre crime from Charlotte police files (Jan. 22)

Strange shoplifters and more

You Kids Stay Off My Lawn!: Two northwest Charlotte neighbors in their late 60s phoned police after someone drove through their yards, hitting a mailbox before driving away.

Dude, Where's My Car?: A 37-year-old man, who had previously reported that his key fob was stolen, called police after someone moved his 2009 BMW to a different spot while it was parked on Central Avenue. Maybe he just forgot where he left it? .

Uh-Oh, Better Get Maaco: A 40-year-old south Charlotte woman called police after finding her 1997 Ford Explorer vandalized. Someone dumped two cans of paint on the vehicle's hood.

Where Else But Walmart?: When it comes to odd items/combinations of items to shoplift, Walmart is king. Here's some of what we've found over the last few months (each * is a separate incident):

* Four cases of Miller Lite and two cases of Bud Light

* A pack of shrimp, a pack of salmon

* Four sets of bed sheets

* $43 worth of vacuum filters

* A key ring, a bra, a computer mouse, mascara, lipstick, lip liner, eyeliner, headbands, bronzer, lip color and a Frappucino — all of which were concealed in a pocketbook

* Four sweatshirts, a large bag of toilet paper and a 50-pound bag of dog food

* $54 worth of Dr. Scholls shoe insoles — concealed in his shoes, obviously

* A water filter and dog dewormers

* Sour Patch Kids, Mike's Hard Lemonade, a large bag of candy, chicken fingers and tater tots

* A toaster oven, a blender, a microwave and assorted makeup

Sticky Bandit: A northeast Charlotte car dealership reported that someone stole two gumball machines from the business. The suspect entered the location with fraudulent paperwork authorizing him to service the machines. He then placed the machines in his car and drove away. Guess no one told him you should keep your hands off other people's balls

Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
