Bizarre crime from Charlotte police files (Oct. 16)

To be blunt

Rain, rain go away: A man presumably seeking shelter from the elements decided a regular ol' umbrella wasn't going to cut it. While reviewing video surveillance footage, a local realty management company found out he rode up to the business in a mountain bike and rode off with an umbrella that had been protecting a picnic table outside of the building.

Paranoia: Take care to extend your arms in a non-threatening way. Someone called police after she witnessed someone extend his arms in a manner that led her to believe he was pointing a gun in her direction. The woman did admit to cops that she never actually saw a firearm in the suspect's possession.

To be blunt: Cops killed two birds with one stone when someone called them after a known suspect put a burning marijuana blunt on his vehicle, causing damage.

Window pain: Whoever was the victim in this incident will probably reconsider whether the glass is half full. As the victim was trying to move some window panes of glass, a few weighing approximately 1,000 pounds fell on him. Somehow, he managed to sustain only a broken leg.

Bleeding ink: The pen truly is mightier than the sword. Someone called police after he was assaulted with the writing utensil. No arrests were made. In an unrelated incident, someone called police after a suspect hit him in the head with a magazine.

Pinch, poke: A mother called police after her son complained that someone had poked him in the knee with a metal hanger several times on a school bus.
