Bizarre crimes from Charlotte police files (April 25)

Vandalism via pink eyelashes

iSad: Two men got away with a daring heist at Northlake Mall last week, although they were probably a little let down when they looked at their stolen goods. Employees at the mall's Apple Store told officers that two men broke into a display case in the store and made off with the iPad that they had been eyeing. Unfortunately for them, the iPad in question was made of plastic and for display purposes only.

Eyesore: A 68-year-old woman called police last week after someone vandalized her car. The woman told officers that she left a pair of pink, fake eyelashes on the hood of her car for a couple of hours. During that time, someone allegedly took the eyelashes out of their box and attempted to place them above the headlights of her car as if they were eyes. The suspect did this by melting them into place, which damaged the grill of the car.

Keep Calm: A 46-year-old woman called police after someone allegedly stole a suitcase full of her medications right before she left town. The victim, who must have been a complete mess in whatever town she arrived in, filed a report online stating that someone had grabbed the suitcase while she was packing her car in Charlotte. The woman stated that she was missing her blood pressure pills, heart medication, nerve pills, acne cream, "focusing medication," pain pills, seizure medicine, Adderall, Vicodin and, worst of all, her "coping medicine."

Fool the fuzz: A woman was arrested in northwest Charlotte last week after she took advantage of some cops. Police were working an undercover operation to find dealers in the neighborhood when they asked the woman if she could score them some drugs. She told them she could, took their $40 and walked away. After the woman didn't return for some time, police began to look for her and found her walking on a nearby street. Police said the woman admitted that she was going to keep the money.

Fireman: A man was placed under arrest inside of Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy last week after a nurse caught him in the act of lighting the sheets of his own hospital bed on fire. The fire was put out before too much damage was done, but the man assaulted the two police officers who responded to the call for help.

Honey is Money: Police responded to a home in the Lake Wylie area last week after a thief allegedly made off with some dangerous cargo. An 86-year-old man told officers that some unknown suspect broke into his shed and stole 10 wooden boxes made to hold beehives, two boxes of wax foundation, a smoker, $175 worth of sheets that go into the boxes, and two live beehives with the queen and all of her friends still at home.

Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
