Bizarre crimes from Charlotte police files (Jan. 30)

Lemme see your grill

For Protection: Two men were arrested in south Charlotte after police arrived on the scene of a fight while it was still happening. Police reported that one of the men held a firearm during the entire fight, even pointing it at the other man's head while police were there.

Sleeping In: A 37-year-old man regrets not helping his roommate move after the other man allegedly took some liberties with his property. The victim told officers that he stayed in his bedroom the entire time the suspect was moving his stuff out. When he finally left his room, he realized that his sofa had also been relocated to the roommate's new home.

One Size Fits: A 19-year-old man called police after someone broke into his car at Northlake Mall and stole his very personal property. The man told officers a $100 bill and a "grill" for his lower front teeth, custom-fit to his own mouth, had been taken. The grill was listed as costing $275.

Rat in a Cage: Officers responded to Shamrock Elementary School hoping to find the person(s) who had crashed into the playground area. Employees called the police after looking out at the playground and seeing a four-door sedan doing laps around the swing set, the driver looking for a way out after plowing off Shamrock Road and right through the school's chain-link fence.

Cheap Bastards: Police showed up at an east Charlotte apartment to check on the health of a newborn baby and found two of the worst new parents in the city. Officers found the baby in a freezing cold apartment and reported that the occupants had power and could run the heat but refused to do so. The baby was taken to the hospital and the Department of Social Services was brought in to investigate.

video game violence: A 39-year-old man filed a police report accusing his buddy of assaulting him by smashing a plastic guitar from the game Guitar Hero across his face.

Carry On: A 54-year-old man recently reported $8,000 missing from his briefcase after it was searched at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The man said that his briefcase was scanned and searched through, but he apparently did not think it was important to watch what was going on. It was only after he arrived at one of his destinations that he realized the cash was nowhere to be found.

Threats of the Week: A 27-year-old woman called police after someone who appreciates a good Google search told her, "You can look me up. I fight cops and I will fight you." A 20-year-old man filed a report after an ex-lover sent him a text that said, "I can put your bologna on your car and mess up your paint," before stepping it up with, "I am going to get my big cousins on you and they got guns."

Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
