Bizarre crimes from Charlotte police files (July 18) 

A sticky situation

Fool Me Once: After her car had been stolen multiple time, a 61-year-old woman finally decided to go to police. Perhaps she waited to contact the authorities because the car was never permanently gone; on three separate occasions, an unknown suspect stole her vehicle and then returned it. The woman only decided to go to police after the third time because the vehicle came back damaged.

Moving A Head: A man working on a construction site called police last week after he found what he believed to be the top of a human skull. Perhaps he should have gone to some sort of psychic instead, since police can't prevent whoever was buried at the site from haunting it for the rest of eternity.

Stash Hole: Police responded to a robbery call in west Charlotte last week after a man was assaulted and robbed. The man told officers that an assailant punched him and threatened him with a wrench in hot pursuit of what the victim was holding. Officers asked what the man coveted so desperately, and the victim answered quite frankly: marijuana.

Charity Case: A man in south Charlotte fell victim to some do-gooders last week while he worked on his lawn. He claimed he was landscaping in his yard when two men walked up holding a bag that read "HOPE For Battered Women and Children." They said they would leave the bag on the porch for any clothes the victim wanted to donate. When the man finished his work, he went to the porch to grab the bag and his phone, which had been charging there all along. The phone was, of course, gone.

Sticky Situation: An employee of Fabulous Beauty Supply flagged down an officer last week to inform him that a theft was taking place. The officer entered the store to find a man who had allegedly walked in, opened a sealed container of hair gel and began using it. He then placed it back on the shelf and became argumentative when the employee told him the store didn't offer free samples.

Red Handed: A suspect tried to play victim last week, but her ploy did not last. The woman swiped a car in a mall parking lot the previous week. Someone saw the accident and left a note with the suspect's license plate number on the true victim's car. A week later, the suspect tried to file a police report saying that she had been the victim of a hit-and-run. Allegedly she wanted insurance to pay for it. Unbeknownst to her, her license was already on file. She was charged with the crime.

Excessive Force: A 23-year-old man filed a police report against some cops last week. The man claimed that two officers stopped him for no reason as he left a gas station, searched him, drove him down the street to talk to him and then dropped him off at the store.
