Bizarre crimes from Charlotte police files (Nov. 28)

Don't text or drive: A 31-year-old woman filed a police report after receiving some disturbing messages. The woman told officers a man called her 34 times and then sent her a text that said, "Today is the day I tell u 'bout ur self; won't let u live no more." In a separate incident, a man involved in a road-rage argument wanted to brag a little about his cool job. He allegedly told the man he argued with, "If I didn't work for the Panthers, I'd get out of this car and beat your ass."

Hairy situation: Police in southwest Charlotte came across a suspicious person last week and found him to be carrying a bag full of tools commonly used for burglaries, as well as some property matching the description from a recent break-in. The man was found to be in possession of more than 20 feet of human hair, which police suspected had been stolen earlier that day from a nearby beauty supply store.

Bye bye, baby: Forget purses — thieves are resorting to taking women's diaper bags. Holding onto hers, a woman was walking her baby near Queens Road. A man approached her and grabbed the diaper bag before running away, making off with her cellphone and license and about $10 worth of diapers and wipes.

Guns a-blazin': Police responded to a call about a man barricading himself in his south Charlotte apartment last week. After sending the man to the hospital for mental evaluation, police seized several pretty serious weapons from his home, including an AK-47, multiple shotguns and semi-automatic handguns. Police removed 13 guns and three knives from the home.

Obamascare: Many people have been frustrated with the Affordable Care Act's website since it launched, but one Charlotte man went over the edge after trying to shop around for insurance last week. The man allegedly called an employee of the health insurance marketplace and said, "If I have to go into the office and put a gun to you guys' heads until the system works, then I'll do that."

Seedy: After the Charleston police department found 3,734 pounds of weed — valued at $1,867,000 — in a warehouse in the coastal town, their search for a suspect led them to Charlotte, to a home on Archdale Drive. Once there, they took documents from a man they believe was connected to the warehouse.

Lost In Translation: Police in east Charlotte were at a loss last week when they came across a man sitting on a curb surrounded by people. They could tell that something had happened so they stopped, but the "Middle Eastern" man, as he was described in the police report, could not speak English and the officers could not understand him so they left. The man later had a friend call police back because he had been assaulted.
