Fur and Feathers by Emily Andress

Time Collectors at Ciel Gallery: Artists Amy Hart and Emily T. Andress have created works that place an emphasis on nostalgia. For Hart this feeling is awakened through found objects that she rearranges to form structures that resemble animals. Andress, on the other hand, paints a compelling series of portraits based off of old photos. She uses thick brush strokes and blotted colors to form distinctive facial features. Free admission. Opening reception on June 6, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit runs through June 28. Ciel Gallery, 128 E. Park Ave. 704-496-9417. www.cielcharlotte.com.

Carl Plansky, Figures and Landscapes at Elder Gallery: Abstract expressionist Carl Plansky uses vibrant colors and spastic brushstrokes for his portraits and landscapes. The exhibit features both paintings and drawings that he created in his New York and Budapest studios. Free admission. June 6-28. 1520 South Tryon St. 704-370-6337. www.elderart.com.

Summer Showcase at Lark & Key Gallery and Boutique: Summer time means it's also time for a new exhibit at Lark & Key. This one features works by Duy Huynh, Angie Renfro, Vicki Sawyer and Mary Alayne Thomas. June 6-July 26. Free admission. 128 E. Park Ave., Suite B. 704-334-4616. www.larkandkey.com.

It's Life, Still at Charlotte Fine Art Gallery: The exhibit features still lifes by North Carolina oil painter Frankie Denton. Denton sticks to the realism style, but adds in funky, unexpected details. Reception with the artist on June 6, 6 p.m. to 9pm. Exhibit runs through June 28. Charlotte Fine Art Gallery, 7510 Pineville-Matthews Road, Suite 9A. 704-541-0741. www.charlottefineart.com.

Let the Good Times Roll at Twenty-Two: This skate deck art show, in its fifth year, is one of the gallery's most popular shows and it benefits a grassroots skatepark movement. Reception on June 7, 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Exhibit runs through July 6. Free admission. 1500 Central Ave. 704-334-0122. www.gallerytwentytwo.com.
