CD REVIEW: Another Day Falls' Truth In High Demand

THE DEAL: Charlotte rock quintet Another Day Falls releases its sophomore album.

THE GOOD: The seven-track album starts with "Individual," a heavy, melodic rock song with hints of screaming without being over the top or anything screamo. "Waste," the album's best track, comes across as a typical rock song, but upon closer examination, you can hear some layered lyrics hidden in the background. While some screaming hits, there's also some possible auto-tuned moments back there — not my favorite, but an interesting idea that works in its own way because of the layering behind the music. The album ends with the acoustic "Weekend." "Best of Me" is a bit generic, but solid.

THE BAD: "Top of the World" sounded like auto-tune was used on the vocals. With previous songs showing that it isn't much of a necessity, it came as a bit of a surprise. Singer Ruckuss proves his abilities without it ... Seven songs in 24 minutes will leave people wanting more, but it's better than having worthless filler.

THE VERDICT: A band that isn't re-inventing the wheel when it comes to metal-infused melodic rock. Though it's common on the radio, it breathes some fresh air into the local scene as it is not often represented.

Independent; Release date: Jan. 6, 2011
