UNION PULSE This Wisconsin act — in essence James Redding and, at last count, more than 60 different musicians since the mid-oughties — bills itself as an “idiosyncratic icon at the intersection of Americana, roots rock and alt-country.” Not sure what, if any, differences there at his “icon” cross-roads beyond nomenclature, but Redding’s got a weathered and soulful voice and, depending on the configuration behind him, better arrangements than the average country rock act. At his songwriting best, he’s reminiscent of early Old 97s’ honky-punk; when he’s not at his best, the AOR of Gin Blossoms. Opening for locals Dirt Bag Love Affair and Atlanta’s Death Is a Dialogue.
