Flourish: Five Year Anniversary Exhibit

Let's face it: It sucks to see someone wearing an article of clothing identical to yours. That's because most of us look at dressing as a way of expressing our identity. We want to be original — or at least think we are. Asheville-based fiber artist Jen Searington understands fashion. She creates handcrafted wearables, some of which are produced through shibori dyeing techniques, screenprinting and intricately cut stencils. She also switches up colors, patterns and styles for her creations — meaning the pieces that come out of her studio, Jennythreads, Inc., where she also produces hand-painted and stitched art on fabric, are pretty much one-of-a-kind. Folks curious about the threads can get a peek at them during Lark & Key's Flourish exhibit, which coincides with the gallery's five-year anniversary. The exhibit also features works by other artists who draw inspiration from textiles and nature. With ceramic artists Kristin Kieffer, Julie Guyot and Amy Sanders and painters Dawn Rentz, Mirabel Angel and Marcy Baker. Opening reception on Feb. 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
