Item of the Week: Ella B Pure Soy Candles

With the gift-giving season upon us, I know there's one Charlotte lover on your list that you're struggling to find something for. May I suggest an Ella B Pure Soy Candle? Made by Julie Tassy, these candles are poured locally and made out of pure soy. Aside from the cool benefits of burning a soy candle as opposed to a paraffin wax candle (Soy candles are clean-burning and made out of a renewable and biodegradable resource.), the real appeal is that the different fragrances have been inspired by different areas of town. There are 12 distinctly Charlotte fragrances, with names like Ballantyne, Plaza Midwood and SouthPark.

"For instance, Providence is a very smoothing, calming fragrance. One of the notes in it is lavender; it's just very calm," Tassy says. "It reminds me of a sanctuary. And if you drive down Providence Road, you're going to pass a thousand churches. That's where Providence came from."

Ella B Pure Soy Candles offer a 60-plus hour burn and are $25. They can be purchased at Cottage Chic, Green With Envy, Sisters (in Matthews), Three French Hens, Black Lion, Fabo Cafe, Bebe Gallini's (in Lake Norman), Blis Uptown and The Buttercup. You can also find a complete selection at Cotswold Marketplace.
