Karma Cleanser

Dear Karma Cleanser:

My best friend recently married a guy she thinks is just great. I thought so too, until I found out that my sister's friend has actually been cheating with him.

I know about all their romps and the passionate kisses they've been sharing. Not only that, but this guy has been with a lot of people. I knew about it when they were engaged and I didn't tell.

They have only been married for two weeks. What should I do, Karma Cleanser? This is my best friend, and I do not want this shit coming back to me. Help! I'm waiting for an answer quick!

---- Bridesmaid Revisited

Wait, so you thought he was a great guy when they got married, but you also knew he was a tramp during the engagement? That's the beauty and tragedy of the human brain, we suppose, our ability to hold two fundamentally opposite truths in our minds at once and fully believe both. Your role is made all the more unsavory by your closeness with the bride. If you tell her now what you knew all along, she'll hate you for it. If you don't tell her and the truth comes out, she'll also hate you. Our advice: Give the girl time and she'll eventually see the notches in his bedpost. If these shenanigans are going down after only two weeks, reality will surely come crashing in even before the honeymoon's over.

Dear Karma Cleanser:

In response to your request for good stories: I paid for a month's worth of piano lessons for my daughter in advance, as per the requirements of her new teacher. After the first lesson, the teacher proved unable to keep track of when we were coming. Taking this as a warning, I decided we would look elsewhere. The teacher called a week later and apologized for having so much scheduling trouble and asked to make it up. I politely refused, and when she offered a refund, I declined, saying I'd accept her terms as we agreed. A week later she sent a full refund anyway, including the lesson we took.

That afternoon, I took my kids to an amusement park. We stood in line for ice cream. When I checked my wallet, I told my kids (truthfully) I only had enough for one ice cream, but we could share. My kids agreed. While we were happily huddled over the bowl, a woman came up to us and said she'd overheard me and she had some extra money. She then handed me two $5 bills, against my protestations, and walked away.

I've never had any financial luck before. Who knows where this all came from? Nice.
