Would you bite the hand that feeds?
I believe local advertisers are the sole support of Creative Loafing, seeing as CL is a free paper. I counted about 35 ads in the Oct. 1 issue for local restaurants, including a full-page ad by Cosmos Cafe on your inside front cover. From having advertised in CL in the past, I know these ads are not inexpensive, especially a full-page ad in color. You also use a lot of local restaurants as your distributing points at no cost to you. Some of my neighbors that I've spoken to are not too happy with the article either.
I was shocked, under these circumstances, to read Cheris Hodges' article, "Tightening the belt." Twice, she mentions and thusly advocates that your readers save some funds by skipping eating lunch out. Do you guys realize how many Uptown and other restaurants depend on the lunch crowd to make a living and pay their bills? Can you relate to, "biting the hand that feeds you?" Wake up, CL.
