Q&A with Jenni Nicole Fisher, owner of Jenni Nicole's Boutique

Those of us living and working in this dynamic city know just how difficult it is to keep up with what's trending in fashion — much less make time to shop. Meet Jenni Nicole Fisher, who delivers the solution with her online shop Jenni Nicole's Boutique (www.jenninicole.com). Originally from New York, Fisher puts her fashion capital roots to good use, bringing Charlotte the more cutting-edge accessories out there. She keeps up with her trendy homework with the help of Style Network and fashion magazines, in addition to utilizing the Internet as a vehicle for her customers — meaning less work for us. In true boutique fashion, Fisher is selective with her merchandise and stocks her online store with rare finds so her customers can feel confident that sporting any jewel from Jenni Nicole is an exclusive treat.

Creative Loafing: Have you always known you were heading to a fashion career path?

Jenni Nicole Fisher: Definitely. There are pictures of me when I was younger playing dress-up in my mom's clothes. She kept strands of pearls on her bedpost that I loved to wear. I'd slip on her high heels and walk around. Now, if you walked into my closet you'd find over 100 pairs of heels and quite the collection of accessories. I always knew I wanted to own my own business, but I wanted to start it on my own with no financial help. So I went to work in an accounting firm, saving money in order to fund my fashion dream.

How do you find the accessories for the online store, and then how do you put the word out?

Designers and stores call me and offer to sell accessories wholesale; they send look books and I go through them to decide what to carry. I go with what's in style. I'm always watching what designers are putting out on the runway. Social media has been a fantastic tool for getting the word out, and our new site just launched. Not to mention, anytime I'm out, I get compliments on my accessories. I'm my own walking billboard.

What is it about Jenni Nicole's Boutique that makes it stand out in the Queen City?

It's online. Charlotte is a growing city, the people are always moving — the online store makes it easier and faster to shop. When you think "boutique," you think exclusive, and that's the vibe I want. I rarely carry a lot of the same accessories. I want my customers to know they have an accessory exclusively.

Any words of advice for the safe dresser on getting out of her plain comfort zone?

Accessorize! Always look for one piece that can pop in the outfit, like a nice scarf to dress up a plain T-shirt. Anything to make the simple really stand out.
