All these possibilities come into play when friends and colleagues come over to celebrate the 10th wedding anniversary of the deputy mayor and his wife — only to learn that hizzoner is confined to his upstairs bedroom with a nasty gunshot wound to his earlobe. It's a comical orgy of speculation, consternation, confusion, and cover-up as Davidson Community Players present Neil Simon's Rumors at Davidson College's Duke Family Performance Hall. Controlling the bleeding isn't nearly as important as quelling the gossip and publicity as the deputy mayor's lawyer and accountant show up with their wives, along with a jolly psychologist and his wife, and a TV cooking show hostess. Neighbors have heard the gunshots, and police have been dispatched to the scene. And where's hizzoner’s wife?! The frenzied farce plays through August 5.
