SlamCharlotte Poetry Slam
Presented by: SlamCharlotte & Blumenthal Performing Arts. This Month's Featured Artist: El'Ja Bowns. El'Ja Bowns is a Spoken Word Artist, Author, Motivational Speaker, Nerd, and Hero of Justice. He was the winner of the 2009 2nd Annual McDonald's Food For Thought Poetry Slam Tour, 2010 East Carolina University's Survival of the Illest Slam Champion, and the 2010 Kings of Poetry in NC by poet/pioneer, Sean Ingram. In addition El'Ja was first poet to have his work featured in the Obama Art Museum located in Raleigh, NC. As of 2014, he is the first ever NC Poet to compete in three different Grand Slams three different cities and win all three(Fayetteville, Charlotte, and Durham). As of 2016, he was the recipient of the Rising Star Male Poet Award for the state of North Carolina and overall recipient of the award for the 2016 GANSPA Awards. He is the author of several poetry collections including his newest, "Anywhere...But Here."
