The Mad Monster

When: Wed., July 25, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: Free
It's really not all that surprising that Martin Barry, better known around the Q.C. as the scary demonic purple-haired clown announcer for Charlotte Roller Girls, likes horror movies a lot. He likes them so much so, that he wants to share his faves with other Charlotteans, and will, in a new film series dubbed Professor Bury's Creature Feature. The series is slated to showcase monster and low-budget horror flicks at The Chop Shop on the last Wednesday of each month. It all kicks off with a screening of Producers Releasing Corporation's 1942 The Mad Monster. In the black-and-white film, a half-wit gardener named Petro (Glenn Strange) is injected with a wolf-turning serum concocted by Dr. Lorenzo Cameron (George Zucco), a deranged scientist desperate to win back prestige from his former colleagues. In his negligence, a young child is killed by the out-of-control Petro, who later gets sympathy from Cameron’s daughter Lenora (Anne Nagel) and her ethical reporter boyfriend Tom Gregory (Johnny Downs).
