We Are Charlotte

In one featured image in The Light Factory's We Are Charlotte, a Latino boy sporting a sombrero holds a sign that reads, "This is how 'racism' see's me!" Another emotional piece is Alcyone Moore's photograph of a distraught black boy who holds his head down and wears a hoodie with the words "I am Trayvon" written boldly across it. These pieces are evidence that one should never underestimate the ability of young people to tackle heavy subject matter through art. With participants from Northwest School of the Arts, Myers Park, West Charlotte and Rocky River high schools, the student art exchange showcases photography and short films, responding to marginalization and politics in America. The works of art pose tough questions like: "Who personifies the real Charlotte?" "What bothers you about America?" "What worries you about the future?" "What would you change about America if you could?"
