Chuy's (pronounced "Choo-eez"), a Tex-Mex style restaurant, opened yesterday in SouthPark inside the space formerly occupied by Zink American Kitchen. The Austin-based chain, popular throughout Texas and the Southeast, features Tex-Mex style food and wacky, eclectic decor.
Amidst the colorful tiles and a Chihuahua Bar featuring framed photos of local fur kids, you will find an authentic comal where hand-rolled tortillas are made fresh daily. A fully-loaded nacho bar opens every day from 4-7 p.m.
The food is Tex-Mex style, so expect to see enchiladas, tacos and burritos as "Big as Yo'Face." Chuy's makes a ton of fresh salsas each day to satisfy the faint of tongue and the fire breathers. I hear the salsa fresca is made fresh every hour.
Chuy's has signature dishes like the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, which is a chicken breast breaded in Lay's potato chips, deep fried and smothered with cheddar cheese and Green Chile sauce. I opted for the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom, a spicy enchilada dish made with hand-pulled chicken and "Boom-Boom" sauce made with green chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice with a side of Mexican style rice and beans. If margaritas and frozen drinks are your thing, Chuy's has no shortage of refreshing and fruity libations in Texas-sized goblets.
Chuy's is now open at 4310 Sharon Road in South Park, seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
