The Social Eater #hashtaghungry: Festival food for the win

It's the weekend of festivals. Here's your weekly list of filter-friendly, tweetable, social media-shareable foodie events in and around the city. Ultra sad face that I picked THIS weekend to go out of town. Eat up for me, folks.

• Head out to Queen City Barbecue & Music Festival this weekend to be accosted with the tangy scent of smoky, savory meat lingering in the air. There's no such thing as too many barbecue fests in North Carolina, amirite? While pork will be a'plenty — because how could a BBQ in this lovely state not be overflowing in swine — beef brisket, beef ribs and chicken are also on the menu. Entertainment includes music from John D. Holman, Amigo, Marvelous Funkshun, Jason Lee McKinney Band and others; Lucha Libre wrestling; a sideshow; more. #divineswine

• On Saturday, the Cajun Fest takes over Romare Bearden Park, with food from Belly Backers, Dan The Pig Man, Chrome Toaster, Roots, Brixx Pizza and Thrasher Dawgs. This event is free and offers entertainment from Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos, Bayou Diesel and Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys. Work up an appetite with free zydeco lessons at 4 and 6 p.m. #beardensbayou

• Chatting with a co-worker yesterday, she dropped this enlightening gem on me: "When I turn 50, I'm just going to get fat. Pasta is making its way back into my life." She has an amazing figure, so I wondered to myself briefly if I should have given up pasta myself. Of course, I immediately rejected that thought. Anyway, you can indulge in pasta, pizza, meatball sandwiches, gelato and more at the 9th annual Festa Italiana, taking place at Raffaldini Vineyards. The entrance fee gets you all-day admission, tastings of three Tuscan-style wines, parking and a souvenir glass. #vivalapasta

• Because no one — especially the little ones — should go hungry. On Saturday, Mimosa Grill hosts a four-course No Kid Hungry dinner with executive chef Jon Fortes, who gets some help from chefs Colin Bedford (The Fearrington House, Pittsboro, N.C.), Vivian Howard ( Chef & the Farmer, Kinston, N.C.), Jay Swift (4th & Swift Restaurant and Bar, Atlanta, GA) and Joe Trull (Grits and Groceries, Belton, S.C.). From a Yuzu Crab Salad to an Apple and Fig Bread Pudding, the price tag is well worth the good you're doing for this organization.
