Everything you write, I laugh out loud in the first paragraph. Sometimes I even frighten the children. Bravo, and hilarious, as always.
One my favorite albums of all time! Such an inspiration! Thank you, John, for many years of stunning individualism and musical innovation!
Love the album black gives way to blue keep on rocking miss you Layne RIP
Why would Jordan think his reviews are credible? Why is he so bitter? Maybe he wishes he could be as beautiful, smart, and real as Delta Rae. Maybe they are just trying their best to make it in the music world. Maybe his "daring" reviews are how he sees himself making it in journalism, maybe he is just insecure
Dude the worse face you can show is a jealous one, my advise is stop reviewing them if you hate them so much it makes you look pathetic.
I remember those nights. He was putting together the Rolling Thunder tour, and it was at the Other End, not Folk City. Great time was had by all. One of the guitar players on stage was a young, unknown Tbone Burnett.
Thanks for all the kind words, guys.
wonderful and hilarious in equal parts.
But no Mr. Dylan in there Antar ? should have worn your P.J.'s.
I saw Ruben "Hurricane" Carter get defeated by "Rish" Joey Archer at Madison Square Garden in 1963. It was thrilling. Carter was essentially the middleweight Sonny Liston. Archer was the epitome of fine pugilistic skills. I never wrote a song about either of them. However, I did write one about Billy Conn almost defeating Joe Louis. I spent an afternoon with Conn at his home in Pittsburgh. He was a gracious host with a great sense of humor. I went to his bathroom a couple of times that day. Washed my hands after.
Nice piece of writing. Thanks.
Very funny! Thanks.
"Noam Chomsky" Really?
Bob Dylan wore that scarf for the same reason he had his hands stuffed in his pockets on the cover of " Freewheeling"! it was winter in NYC and when that winter winds gets swirling in and out of the many skyscrapers, there ain't no cold like it
Thank you Pat. Best PG
Wonderful. Great story and great storytelling.
Can Jordan Lawrence handle the truth?? You're a lousy writer, penning an article I've had to read three times to get some kind of grip on. The only clear thing is this - you are one of the VERY few "critics" who hasn't fallen in love with this band. You obviously are about nothing more than shock value by criticizing that which you don't feel "daring" enough for us poor souls with pitiful musical tastes. Perhaps you're a bit jealous that a talented band is making the national scene after just three years of crafting their art, while after the same amount of experience, you sit writing freelance articles for a few independent rags and a music magazine no one has ever heard of.
I saw these guys in NODA one night, can't really say much for them. I saw them before the show hanging out with a sizeable group of friends and those same friends seemed to be the same people crowding around the stage. Like the article says, they "work at Red Rocks Café in Huntersville" which makes sense because their show is very reminiscent of a guy who often raps to his co-workers between breaks. I was into the first song but felt like I was in the twilight zone after hearing the next few. Everything really sounded the same and I couldn't really tell one song from the other. On a positive note, I did feel myself grooving to the beat a little at times. I would definitely be interested in an instrumentals version of what they offer. Especially "Dragon Defeated". Other than that, it is what you would come to expect from 2 dudes who act like Kid-n-Play.
Seems to me you are a little crass in your description of Delta Rae. Do they (some of which) being graduates of Duke University and you having graduated from UNC (arch collegiate rivals) contribute to your harsh criticism of them? Just saying, everyone's entitled to their opinion but in my opinion you suck, Jordan Lawrence !!!!
Forget the content of this article in general, this is poor writing. This sounds like a college compare and contrast essay for Music Journalism 101. I hope your other articles are more captivating, researched, and less repetitive. As a fellow Tarheel I would only hope that this is the case. Total Snoozefest dude. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Delta Rae is a lie? Wow. I am guessing this Jordan couldn't carry a tune in a bucket if his/her (who the fuck cares) life depended on it. Any idiot with ears can tell these 6 individuals are talented and will go far. Get out of NC and see the world ya moron
