This group against the new resort and restaurants is religiously motivated and believes strongly, that the US government should be controlled by the church. These are the remnants of family ideas left behind after the British were defeated at Kings Mountain, Guilford Courthouse and abandoned/retreated from Charlottesburg (called Charlotte today).
The families and values still live here today and strongly support a single church controlling the government. Obviously, the calls of lottery tickets being Satan's work and allowing it, or wine at restaurants, have systemically been defeated. One by one, their calls of a ripped open society due to allowing the lottery or wine in restaurants have been defeated at the polls.
No one religion will ever again be allowed to legally control this country. Our voting poll is on change dot or if you would like to vote for the new resort.
Sincerely, Martin CJ Mongiello
Can the same genius who states that this promotes inequality and impacts the poor negatively realize that we promote the lottery in this state? Nothing impacts the poor more than spending money on the lottery. People are already driving a ton to go to Harrahs in Cherokee. This project would promote tourism and create jobs around Kings Mountain. Gambling will always be a part of our society. We might as well monetize on it.
Charlotte and Kings mountain would benefit greatly from that new casino. People from far distances will travel to the area and spend a great amount of money on hotels, restaurants etc.
To think that crime and more drug abuse will arise in the area is baloney. That group are religious conservatives who lack any open mind. geez

Whistle Blowers on chicken killers: Good
Whistle Blowers on baby killers: Bad
I realize this article is old, but it is infuriating to read that North Carolina would do such a thing. I mean, the fact that illegal, unethical, and unsafe practices are being exposed should be a good thing, am I right? I don't even begin to understand how an act like this even begins to take place, aside from the obvious greed, corruption, and lies that flood the government as well as the ag industry. Am I missing something here, can someone chime in? It gives me a heavy heart that this is only one tiny example of what's wrong in our world. And I know it's such a small piece of what's out there, but it still does not change the fact..
I kind of just laughed when I read this section of the story:
"If you work for a business and you see something that is obviously wrong, nothing prevents you from being a whistleblower," Szoka aid. "You go to the proper channels. Instead of going to the closest media outlet, you go to the proper authorities.
and it reminds me of the recent Sonny'S BBQ sexual harassment case. Just completely asinine. Different scenario, but obviously the "proper channels" are just another branch of the corporate corruption. Forget it. Done going off on a tangent. Thanks for the vent.
What she says about Vilma Leake is 100% spot on and probably too kind. I volunteered for a political campaign and crossed paths with her a while back. Never having met her, I had no idea she was so rude and impersonal. What I experienced was bad enough to ask around. It seems she has an awful reputation as a bully. I don't believe constituents like me are generally aware of this. If Dr. Leake feels you're her inferior you can forget about trying to work with her and god forbid, change her mind on anything or present fresh thought. Time after time I heard things like "It's all about Vilma" or "the Vilma show". What a disappointment. It's great to see this coming out into the daylight. She's holding our district and our city back.
Glad to see this, although I would really love to have a conservative voice from District 2. But that won't happen any time soon unfortunately. However, anything is better than Vilma Leake.
Great Article. Wish you the best in your campaign. Go Lula....
This is great! best of luck to you. Keep going!
Great article and a needed change. The decline of our community and our voices have been falling on death ears. The district has a representative but we do not have an advocate . We sit and watch our communities decline with the erosion of jobs , enrichment services and education. Enough.....we need and deserve a representative who grasp the issue and willing to work to change it for the better. Rosa H. Mustafa .... Run Lula and Win.
It it so exciting and exhilarating to see a Millennial running for office. We need fresh ideas to combat the issues that we are facing in this city. Charlotte is already a beautiful city, and with elected officials who are willing to stand up for our people, we can not be stopped. Reading this makes me more empowered to work in my community and enact change in whatever way that I can. How exciting!
Very proud of you Lula! We all have seen the greatest you are and what you can accomplish. Look forward to supporting you during this incredible ride.
I certainly hope Roy learns from the past mistakes of the last big race in NC.
Kay Hagans Re-Election was hers to lose .... and she did.... I do not know who she was listening to , but her mistakes were legion.
The Minority vote in NC could have saved her, but she choose to assume we were automatically all in. Bad decision on her part.
She all but iqnored the Hispanics in NC who represent over 300,000 votes.. How careless she was. Will Roy do that?
As the Leader of the NCDP Hispanics I can promise an unprecedented voter registration effort and election day turnout for 2016 of the hundreds of thousands Hispanic voters in our great state.
To ensure coordinated and far reaching effort, the NCDP Hispanic American Caucus and the NCDP African American Caucus have come together and formed the “NC Council of Minority Caucuses”. Through this vehicle we will work together on everything from vetting candidates, to GOTV efforts.
The days of the minority voter being presumed upon are over in NC. No candidate will get a pass again. We need to hear from them.... or they will hear from us.
Place reeked of white privilege, the yuppies in noda act so p.c and progressive but priced many underprivileged minority's out of the area I never had an issue being harassed even in the worst of the crack epidemic.
I might be a Democrat, but I am very opposed to tolls! They rob our highways and costs taxpayers more. The DOT is not giving you choices on I-77. They tell you either pay a ransom toll or stay stuck sitting in traffic all day!! I'd rather travel I-85, US Highways 601, 21, 29, 52 and 70!! We need an anti-toll secretary of the DOT to de-fund the tolls and come up with a plan to widen I-77 from LKN to Mount Airy with 6 and 8 lanes!!
Noe Pliego Campos - STEM is where the jobs are. Wanna live in your parents' basement the rest of your life? Major in "humanities".
How smart do you have to be to try this junk? It isn't like it is new. The effects are well known.
Great article Ryan Pitkin! Thanks for shedding some positive light on refugee resettlement in Charlotte! Glad we have a truly understanding new mayor too -- thanks for attending and speaking at this rally Jennifer Roberts!
Thank you for organizing this. i hope it is the first of many awareness shows. I'd like to volunteer to help in any way. Far too many of our loved ones are at risk......... I'd like to donate my time to help.
