Join trained chef and historic cook Cheryl Henry as she leads an intimate historic cooking class. Participants will be guided by Cheryl in the Polk Site back-country kitchen house as they prepare a 19th century meal. Cheryl will be joined by renowned first-person interpreter and historic cook Clarissa Lynch, who will teach participants about the history behind the foods they will prepare through interactive storytelling. Participants will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor, and will receive a special gift to remember their experience by. Space is extremely limited. Pre-Registration required. $40 one person; $70 two people

Take a step back into time during this annual living history event. Visitors will experience the fervor of the 1844 election, and the excitement of a presidential candidate’s return home. Families will enjoy mingling with a diverse array of backcountry residents, children’s games and crafts, cooking and musket-firing demonstrations, and a birthday treat. This year’s celebration will also coincide with the opening of a new temporary exhibit: Vote: The History of Voting in North Carolina. $5.00 per vehicle
