7th Annual Haunted Harbor w/ Slick Rick The Ruler, Benji Hughes, The Poontanglers

Fri., Oct. 31

Call him what you like — ex-con or hip-hop legend — but Slick Rick is a ruler of the rap world in his own right. His current tour brings him to Charlotte where he’ll perform on Halloween night. Though beat-box phenom Doug E. Fresh won’t be joining him, there’s still plenty of anticipation for his “La Di Da Di” anthem. Also performing is Benji Hughes, The Poontanglers and DJ Justin Aswell. Deniro Farrar, Denzel Curry, Duru the King, JK the Rapper, Well$

Fri., Oct. 31

With a Vice/Warner Bros. deal and XXL eyeing him for the 2014 Freshmen Class, Deniro Farrar’s constant grind is finally be paying off. Regular touring and album/EP/mixtape/video releases have kept him and his Cult Rap movement consistently in the spotlight. His lyrics solidly merge rough street life with introspective home life saturated with reality that’s all brought forth through a gruff and tattooed exterior. (Jeff Hahne)

David Kroll: New Paintings

Through Oct. 31

The Seattle-based artist fuses landscapes and still lifes, but adds contemporary twists. Kroll goes deeper to juxtapose ideas about life, nature and the fluidity of change. Take, for example, his “Koi & Light Blue Vase,” which imposes a school of koi fish flapping above a vase. The fish flow freely and seem to represent natural and artificial, and ethereal vs. material.
