This alt-rock quartet from South Africa, by way of Arizona, hit the mainstream with one of summer’s biggest earworms, “Come With Me Now.” Maybe it’s the infectious rhythms ... or maybe it’s the accordion? Either way, it’s a foot-stomping good time that’s brought plenty of attention to the four brothers who make up the band. It’s not a bad rock bill, either, as they open for Young the Giant and Kings of Leon. (Jeff Hahne)

Art of Sound began as a local festival, and by word of mouth has grown into a respected regional event. AOS now attracts headliner acts from the national scene. In spite of being bigger and better, it retains its home town charm. The festival is in uptown Shelby, the home of Earl Scruggs and Don Gibson. It is held on the historic court square and nestled in several venues that afford the listener an up-close experience with the artists. The venues are tucked away at a variety of indoor stages around the square. $10-$35http://www.ccartscouncil.org/artofsound/
Seamlessly blending genres while refusing to be limited by the “neo-soul” tag, the eloquent singer/songwriter completed her first release Closer in 2001 and never looked back. Embraced from the beginning by critics and fans alike, Goapele craved the perfect niche for herself as she created music that fused jazz, soul and hip-hop with her own beautiful poetry. $25 ADV & $30 DOShttps://www.facebook.com/events/691939634214165/
