BANDA SUKI

One of three tracks on this relatively new Charlotte quintet’s Bandcamp page is a cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “Mr. Soul.” That should give at least a bit of a hint where this band’s mindset is. Its fuzzed-out psychedelic rock comes across as far more mature and “together” than what you’d expect from a band that formed in January. Sure, two of the three demos posted online are covers (the other is by Sun Ra), but the original, “Ghost Town,” shows plenty of promise. (Jeff Hahne)

SAMANTHA FISH

Whether it’s slide played on a cigar-box guitar or it’s riffs plucked out on an electric, Samantha Fish has no fear in showing off her chops. She’s one of those blues-driven performers who lets her guitar do the talking — and she’s not a bad singer either. She quickly loses herself in a solo and lets the strings and notes bend their way through the air, while her vocals can conjure up heartache and sass all at once. (Jeff Hahne)

Join Lost Dog Street Band for an evening of original country storytelling songs. Lost Dog Street Band is a husband and wife duet from Tennessee. Together they have traveled the country wide, at first bringing music with them on foot. The first two years were spent journeying by freight train and hitchhiking. Today, they travel by van. Knitting together musical influences from traditional country, old time, and blues Ashley Mae and Benjamin Tod continue to refine what is their original take on American storytelling songs. The Hashbrown Belly Boys and Ladies on the Rag will be opening. $5

SERYN

A few weeks ago I reviewed the new Delta Rae album and criticized it for being too polished and lacking the down-to-earth vibe the band gives off live. While that band focuses on arena-sized ambition, Seryn has their sights set on solid harmonies and roots rock that remains grounded. The use of a banjo and fiddle help drive home the folk aspects of the sextet’s thickly layered sound. (Jeff Hahne)
