Ages: 18 and up. Participants should have a basic knowledge of color, composition, values, shapes, etc. Learn how to loosen up, let go, and utilize line, shape, value, color, texture, and spontaneity to move beyond the realm of representational painting to produce work that is bold, colorful, and personally expressive. This workshop is for acrylic, watercolor or oil. Students will participate in short, timed sessions and group critiques. Both days will include instructor presentation and demonstration. Supply list at time of registration. Instructor: David Kessler. Minimum: 6. Early Bird: $200. After August 1: $225.

You may bring your own paintings to class and work on them while the instructor provides one-on-one assistance in solving problems with your work. Mini-lessons on color, technique, and other compositional issues will include: selecting color for more dynamic effects; triangulating your compositional elements; examining the effects of color vs. value; avoiding mud at all costs. Ages: 7-9 / Time: 11 am-12 pm Ages: 10-14 / Time: 12:30-2 pm Description: Create your own characters and stories as you write your unique comic strip. Autumn will be the theme. Be creative with characters, pumpkin heads, leaves, scarecrows, and the list goes on! Instructor: Mr. Tom was a student of Johnny Hart, creator of the "B.C." and "Wizard of ID" comic strips, and he produced his own comic strip. Haines was the cartoonist for the 4th Infantry Division during his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969. Pre-registration required. Cost: $35. All supplies included.

Ages: 18 and over. Description: Learn in this two-Saturday workshop how to create impressionistic-style landscapes using acrylic paint with dry brush technique. Complete one painting each Saturday in 5 hours. Instruction will be step-by-step demonstrations plus individual guidance. The class will cover sketching, painting with a light wash, and applying thicker layers of color. Instruction on composition, perspective, color mixing and balance will also be covered.
