THEATER: Love Conquers All: A Quiet Evening with Sid & Nancy

Friday, May 27

Citizens of the Universe takes on the heavy stuff in its newest cult classic take-to-the-stage, Love Conquers All: A Quiet Evening with Sid & Nancy. It's based off of the 1986 film about Sid Vicious (bassist for the punk rock band the Sex Pistols) and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen — both of whom possess an unhealthy addiction to heroin, violence and ...each other. When an interviewer stumbles down the streets of Chelsea with questions, he finds a deranged drug-using couple (played by the pictured Kaddie Sharpe and Berry Newkirk) out for a casual night of mayhem. The play — conceived by James Cartee and directed by Nick Iammatteo — might just take you on a trip of your own and its flyers read, it's best to "dress for a mess." Shit was flying in past productions of COTU's Trainspotting. Not sure what'll happen in this one, but you can't say you haven't had fair warning. For more information, call 704-615-4615 or visit www.citizensoftheuniverse.org. $5-$10. May 27, 8 p.m. & 11 p.m.; May 28, 11 p.m. The Mill, 3306 N. Davidson St., Suite A, Charlotte. 704-331-9898.
