Charlotte NC Fashion Week: Recap of Day 2

In the fashion shows I've attended in my short time dealing with Charlotte's fashion and shopping scene, I've always found that the organizers usually save the best for last. The first designer showcased is usually the warm-up — he or she has some decent designs, but nothing to really wow you. The line that will blow you away will always be the finale. But on day two, Sept. 24, of Charlotte NC Fashion Week, I didn't really find this to be the case.

The first line to parade down the runway at the Bank of America Urban Garden was SACCHI Designs, courtesy of Denise Sparks. Anna Kooiman described the line as "sophisticated and versatile" and I have to agree. The first few outfits boasted a True Blood, sexy vampire look, (if not the sexy vampire costume found at Red Door) with the bright red and all black, slim cuts. Throw in some polka dots (from the big, 1950s style dress to a baggy tube top with black glitter polka dots), a cowgirl outfit and, my favorite, an ornate, heavily ruffled white dress that screams Dracula's bride, and you've covered pretty much gone full circle.

Polka dots and vampire-esque outfits were definitely not seen in the line of Odelia Rouse. She believes "the less complicated, the better." Most of the outfits seen here were simple — the cuts were clean and each outfit had a primary accent that drew your eye, whether it was the heart-shaped bust line or an off-the-shoulder sash. I do have to admit though that I appreciated her island dress the most: a green-tank top with ruffles and abstract, every-which-way patterns on the long skirt. My least favorite outfit? The fish-scale dress.

Kristin Stewart from Raleigh brought a different perspective to the runway with her line Republique Rouge: day-to-night outfits. Jumpsuits for shopping during the day, cute cocktail dresses to pick up men at night. I have to say that I'm a fan of busy on top, simple on bottom, or vice versa ... OR busy all over with an anchoring solid accessory ... and it seems Stewart is, too. And you can never go wrong with black and white and gray.

The next line showcased on the runway, I would have to say, was the most fashion-forward featured. Kotani Rae, courtesy of designer Ravenna Martinez, boasted to be funky bold. Fall was definitely in the air with the golds, oranges and browns. She played with tulle, the silhouettes and wasn't afraid to drop some Eastern influences into the mix.

I'm not really sure the best way to transition to the next designer featured. Gold patterns to bridal dresses? I found it kind of odd, but what would a fashion show be without some designs tainted with soft romance. Adero by Adrina is a collection of dresses for all occasions with a primary focus on bridal and formal wear. The word that comes to mind is classy. On some of the dresses, the jeweled neckline drew the eye, and on others, the ruffle was the thing.

And finally, the last designer of the evening, Sam Randolph. First of all, let me tell you that I'm a big fan of silver and gray. The first few dresses impressed, with the risque split up the leg, the one-shoulder looks, the slinky long gowns and the odd bow here and there. But, I hate to say it, about halfway through the collection, I pretty much lost my enthusiasm. The see-through top with the model wearing a white strapless bra? No. The side stomach cutouts on a white dress? Uh uh. The black ruffles on top with the red laced skirt? A little cheap-looking.
