Grand opening Keaton's Cupboard offering men's fashion

There are tons of boutiques gaining exposure in The Queen City, especially in the past month with Fashion's Night Out and Charlotte Fashion Week, but who's concentrating on men's fashion? There's a new boutique on the block ... or there will be on Oct. 1. The grand opening event of Keaton's Cupboard will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 6 p.m. I've been told that attendees can expect to find an array of men's suits, shirts, ties and shoes from various brands like Steven Land, Carlo Lusso, Modena and Giorgio Fiorelli to name a few.

Now ladies, if you want to accompany your guy to the grand opening, this store has stylish shoe brands for you to shop as well, like Jessica Simpson and Steve Madden. And if you're a "Size Sexy" lady, a term used by the owner to replace the commonly used terminology "plus size," there are fabulously stylish PZI Jeans. Also available are new brands such as Jibri, Igigi and LaDan's Closet.

Keaton's Cupboard is located at 3621 The Plaza Charlotte 28205 or visit online at www.keatons-cupboard.com.

Versona Accessories opens in Charlotte

Posted By on Fri, Sep 30, 2011 at 11:01 AM

Thursday was the grand opening of the first Versona Accessories store, a division of Cato, and it opened in Charlotte. Versona is located in the Arboretum on Providence (near Micheal's). The new store is absolutely beautiful and exceptionally laid out; I love that each section is broken into trends and colors.

Untitled-1.jpg

The affordable prices at Versona will surprise you because the jewelry and accessory pieces are not only fashionable but great quality pieces (some of these pieces you will find at Anthropologie for three times the price) as well.

You will find every accessories you will need for your wardrobe from handbags, footwear, jewelry (including amazing large cocktail rings and lots of pieces for the feather trend), a few clothing pieces, and you will also find some miscellaneous gift items that every girl needs ... like candles, pretty soaps, and decorative tumblers.

I really recommend heading to Versona this weekend — there were so many beautiful items to choose from that is almost hard to pick just one. And with prices like this, you won’t have to!

Ladies of Charlotte, this can easily become a new favorite spot to spruce up your wardrobe without making your bank account angry. Also, you may want to start dropping hints for all the little stocking stuffers you want for Christmas because it is only 85 days away. If you want, take a look at what I took home, because I am in love and cannot wait to go back. Welcome to Charlotte, Versona!

Monkee's hosts Frye trunk show

Posted By on Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at 10:20 AM

The cool fall Carolina weather brings out the boots for our wardrobe, and right now Frye boots are all the rage, as celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone have been seen sporting them.

On Monday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monkee's of Lake Norman in Davidson will be hosting a Frye Trunk Show. During the trunk show, you will be able to meet with FRYE company representative, John Smyth, as he personally helps with your selections of boots and shoes.

The best part of this trunk show is not that you will be leaving with a beautiful pair of Frye boots or shoes, but you will also be helping a good cause. A percentage of all FRYE purchases will be donated to the Marnie Jude Foundation. The Marnie Jude Foundation is to provide financial support for and raise awareness of the necessity of finding a cure for all childhood cancers. So ladies, get your Frye on!

Reminder: Lore Emelio presents All Things Grand

Posted By on Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at 10:13 AM

Local fashion designer Lore Emelio says the only thing missing from her upcoming fall 2011 showcase is a baby grand piano. From the way she describes what to expect of the event, dubbed All Things Grand, we're inclined to believe her.

On Oct. 1, Emelio and her team will take over Silver Hammer Studios to present a runway show of her latest designs. The Parsons School of Design/UNC-Chapel Hill graduate is best known for her hat collection, which exudes feminine Southern charm, perfect for the Queen's Cup Steeplechase.

"I keep trying to just have a hat show, but you have to have apparel for the models to wear," Emelio says. "So I end up making the dresses, and it ends up being a show. I can't help it."

Charlotte Seen Fashion Week: Sept. 24

Posted By on Tue, Sep 27, 2011 at 2:51 PM

As the previous nights, the Saturday event at Charlotte Seen Fashion Week got off to a late start ... very late There were a lot of people there looking around, wondering when this show was going to start. It did not start until almost 9 p.m., which is craziness considering that the VIP hour was from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. That is a long time of just sitting.

Once again and for the final time the bodyguards hit the stage for the judges to make their grand entrance. After the judges made their entrance, Rita Miles took the runway in an over the top gown to welcome us to the show.

The first designer's collection to take the runway was Flow by Tara Davis, full of dresses with great structure and designed for the shape of a woman's body. The colors palette ranged from autumn tones to happy spring pastels that belong in every wardrobe. The Flow by Tara Davis collection continues to stay on top of current fashion trends, fabrics, and silhouettes, providing dresses that continue to flow, move and bounce.

Charlotte Seen Fashion Week: Sept. 23

Posted By on Tue, Sep 27, 2011 at 2:45 PM

Night two of Charlotte Seen Fashion Week kicked off with entertainment during the VIP hour that also continued onto the stage before the show — which I have to admit started a bit more than just fashionably late.

Following the entertainment was a repeat of the introduction of the judges, an entrance of male model “bodyguards,” which was a little overboard for two nights in a row and it was on the program for the next night as well. I am not going to lie though ... the bodyguards were nice eye candy, but honestly I was just ready for the fashion to begin.

When the show started, it started off with a bang with a collection by SilkFalsetto. This collection was full of neon pieces, full of volume and power. Silkfalsetto is a customized clothing line designed by pair Dessaka Lockhart and Naomi Miller that caters to women (sizes 0 to 22), men and children for all occasions.

The collection Foxx Skynz by Melissa Davis was up next on the runway, and you could not deny the bold prints and voluminousness pants. There was one particular pair of pants that I would just die to get myself into. Davis uses uses fabrics from simple polyester to full fledged furs.

Charlotte NC Fashion Week: Sept. 23

Posted By on Tue, Sep 27, 2011 at 2:08 PM

On Friday, Sept. 23, Charlotte NC Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer Showcase included collections by Alice Andrews Designs, Anarke Jeans, T.2 Design Group, MEW Designs, Navy & Pearls, Olivia Kole Company, Julkee Fashions and Tsvety Fashion.

And with that said, here's the fashion lowdown. Check out some of my thoughts about selected runway picks below.

Alice Andrews Designs — This designers’ eco-friendly couture line used all natural dyes from teas and plants. The hand-stitched clothing splashed with colors (a step up from the more traditional tie-dyed look) and shades of soothing blues, greens and autumn faves. Flowy and sheer fabrics. Skirts reminiscent of summer wrap arounds.

MEW Designs — Described as having a rock ‘n’ roll edge, this collection celebrates the designer's love for Charleston, S.C. The result: Lots of pastel striped shirts with light shades, sometimes paired with casual comfy-looking, sweat-style pants.

T.2 Design Group — The all black suit was chic. But, the checkered colored shirts worn by some studly fellas could use a revision. It made me think of one thing: a picnic.

Anarke Jeans — There’s no fear of getting dirty, as models covered from head to toe in white bring a new liking to the shade we’re mostly afraid to wear. Denim suspender ruffle skirts with white tops underneath cutesy crisscrosses.

Navy & Pearls — The mantra of the collection is described as “playful sophistication.” Pastel fitted dresses and jackets are revamped with impressive edgy upper cuts.

Julkee Fashions — The skimpiest line of them all. Open backs and corset-clad dresses bring lingerie-feel of sexiness to sharp ready-to-wear apparel.

Tsvety Fashion — My personal favorite of the bunch. The Bulgarian designer gives her creations a spin with zipper backs, edgy cuts and crushed coral and grey velvet touches. Samantha Busch, the host for the evening, is pictured wearing a Tsvety design.

Olivia Kole Company — Dresses have a little retro spin with lots of colorful blasts and swirls. The peacock-inspired dress was eye-catching with its blue-green plumage appearance and soft satin-like features.

Charlotte Seen Fashion Week: Odelia Rouse, AugustBrandon, Kevin Vain

Posted By on Tue, Sep 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM

Thursday night's show at Gateway Village, courtesy of Charlotte Seen Fashion Week, did not end with the announcement of the Emerging Designer winner. Oh no, after the voting started, three more designers began to show their fabulous collections.

The first to show among the designers was Odelia Rouse, who hopes to be known as a designer who not only is passionate about her craft, constantly seeking way to improve her collection in an innovative way, but also one who shows sensitivity to a woman's figure. Rouse's collection was beautifully constructed as her desire to craft clothing fitted to a woman's figure was accomplished because each piece fit them perfectly.
