B.F.F.: Bracelets are fashionable forever

Posted By on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Assuming you’re over the age of 18, dear reader, you are now experiencing the first taste of what it’s like to feel old. Anything from your childhood is practically vintage now, looked back on with both a fondness and a sense of disbelief that you ever fell victim to its trends. So when we saw the latest resurrection, a la Pinterest and boutique jewelry stores, it was a blast from the past.

Friendship bracelets? Are we really going there? Admittedly, it could be worse. But you can’t tell me the fashion world is so desperate that they had to look back to its painful childhood. It digs up memories of the tiny woven bracelets gathered on your wrist until they were hanging by a thread, just like your friendship. BEST FRIENDS FOREVER! And now you can’t even remember the poor girl's name.

Green Jeans Consignment hosts style battle

Posted By on Mon, Jul 23, 2012 at 12:57 PM

I am forever a fan of boxing. Yes, I know that's a little strange as a fashionista, but it's just something about getting in that ring that excites me. Then again, who doesn't love a good battle? Well, what about a fashion battle?

To launch the new location for Green Jeans Consignment sale in SouthPark, co-owners and sisters Cindy Williams and Dana Degan will host their very first "Style Challenge." It's a wonderful opportunity for three lucky stylists to raise awareness for their favorite charity as well as to show off their styling skills.

On Thursday, Aug. 2, just before the Green Jeans Consignment pre-sale begins, challenging stylists will be granted one hour to create a head-to-toe look for their models. The catch? The ensemble cannot cost more than $100. Shopping on a budget? Now that's my kind of shopping.

The lucky stylists for this "fashion battle," Christine Nelson (Simply Sassy), Marguerite Rupar (Doncaster Charlotte) and Whitley Hamlin (The Queen City Style) will rise to the challenge no doubt, as these ladies will have more than 20,000 items to choose from. I'm talking thousands of brand names on everything from shoes to accessories and dresses to, of course, jeans.

And, you can play a part in this "battle" too. It's time to pull out your judging pen: the Green Jeans fans will serve as the judges. The stylist with the most votes will win $100 toward the charity of her choice, and her model will be given the winning outfit. This is an event jam packed with fun, all while you shop and since it attracts over 1000 shoppers each season, it's one you certainly don't want to miss!

Southpark Green Jeans Consignment Event
Queens Sports Complex.
2229 Tyvola Road

Style Challenge:
Thursday, Aug. 2, 3 p.m.-4 p.m.

Shop the sale:
Friday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 4, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 5, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. (Most Items Will Be Half Price!!!)

Styleascope: Cancer

Posted By on Tue, Jul 17, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Cancer (June 21-July 21)

Styleascope is a lighthearted horoscope that puts a spotlight on local fashion. Believe it or not, Zodiac signs say a lot about a person. They speak to an individual's strengths, weaknesses, romantic attractions, values, desires and ... fashion sense? Yep! The stars can serve as a personal stylist, too. No sign is alike, so your wardrobes shouldn't be either. My aim is to blend fashion and the cosmos by providing a guide to show you what's in store at local boutiques (and why your sign is telling you to wear it). Instead of the runway, I'll use the stars as my guide. So, what's your sign?

Name: Amy Ingraham
Birthday: July 14
Age: 23
Do you read your horoscope? “I don’t go out of my way to read it ... My mom had my whole star chart made for me by an astrologist when I was a baby but none of the 'life events' have ever come true. I guess if it's written in the stars, I’ll rewrite it."

The Cancer is definitely a feeler — possessing impressive intuition and strong emotions. Known for their big hearts, compassion and sensitive nature, Cancerians are also often prone to having mood swings. The crab can wake up introverted and shy yet by the end of the day, could be the life of the party. Fashionably, Cancers are known to literally wear their hearts on their sleeve. Thus, Cancerian fashion is forever changing. But more often than usual, the loyal Cancer will stick to their traditional style. In correlation with their traits, women Cancerians are drawn to feminine silhouettes with lots of soft detail. They also tend to stick to soft colors like silver, pearl white, cream and pastels. Because of their sentimental nature, they favor clothes that tell a story. If an article or accessory is vintage or handmade, it’s all the better in a Cancer’s eyes. Silver is the Cancer's metal, whereas pearls are their sunstones.

All pieces found at Lotus, 1111 Metropolitan Ave Suite 140

Move over Magic Mike: Save the Date for BRIEF! A Fete For Fashion

Posted By on Mon, Jul 16, 2012 at 11:32 AM

Magic Mike, move over. Ladies, save the date, clear your calendar, and grab your girlfriends. Promising “the hottest male underwear on the hottest male bodies,” BRIEF! A Fete for Fashion is back in the buff on Aug. 11.

BRIEF! is a male underwear/swimwear fashion show, paraded down the runway on fine specimens of male eye candy. Channing Tatum may have the moves, but BRIEF’s got the dudes. 24 of them, to be exact, all showing off down-there designs from Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and others.

Save your dollar bills and put it toward a greater cause. BRIEF! benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In years past, the event has raised more than $50,000 for Cystic Fibrosis. Now in its third year, Dan Mauney, the mastermind behind it all, hopes to exceed that amount and have even more in attendance.

Sponsors and donations of runway-ready underwear are being accepted, and VIP tickets are available for purchase. Here’s hoping the show isn’t brief as well. In anticipation of the upcoming event, here's a quick clip to get you hyped.

The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at Extravaganza Depot, located on 1610 N. Tryon St.

Posted By on Thu, Jul 12, 2012 at 1:13 PM

As if it weren’t already hard enough to walk out of Target without spending money, the retail store recently announced the debut of a holiday collection, in collaboration with department store Neiman Marcus.

The partnership will feature 24 designers, among them Council of Fashion Designers of America sweethearts Brian Atwood, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Tory Burch. The collaboration marks the finale of the CFDA’s 50th Anniversary celebration.

Target is no stranger to designer collaborations. Their GO International collection, launched over five years ago, has featured prominent designers at affordable prices. Erin Fetherston, Thakoon, Zac Posen and Rodarte have all offered their designs to the collection.
