Even if it's your intention to end up seeing double this "cinco de drink-o," you might still enjoy reveling in a stylish scene during your tequila shot fueled shenanigans. The third annual FashionSOUL event, featuring an evening of highbrow music, fashion, art and performance, meets your need for both couture and carousing.
Hosted by Morgan Fogarty of Fox News Charlotte, the night brings several of Charlotte's most talented together under one roof. New collections by local fashion designer such as ABBEYDALE, Enemy To Fashion, Flow by Tara Davis and more will be showcased. Local DJs will supply the tunes, and performers from Queen City Theatre and Culture Initiative, among others, will provide entertainment.
Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Charlotte.
Saturday, May 5. $10 in advance at Amos' Southend, $15 at the door. Premium Seats available online only.
Spring fashion trends are all about mixing and matching bright colors and patterns with classic neutral shades. I like to incorporate these same color schemes when applying my makeup. But, I could definitely use some expert advice. Luckily, The Edge Beauty Shop at Dillard's in Carolina Place Mall is hosting its first beauty week from April 19-29. The event will kick off with the first spring fashion show, Spring Ahead Drenched with Edge on Saturday, April 21.
Products from Too Faced, Napolean, Anastasia, and Paula Dorf will be featured on the models, along with Dillard's fashions to create Spring's Haute Day, Night, and Prom looks for 2012. One woman will be chosen on Friday, April 20 for a free makeover at Saturday's show.
I love bumming style ideas off the runway, but what really sold me on this event are the free gifts with purchase during the beauty week and the hourly giveaways during the day. Also, professional stylists are offering complimentary consultations and tips to all attendees. Paula Dorf's celebrity makeup artist, Edgar, will be on site today.
Every woman deserves to pamper herself with nationally renowned cosmetic products, and the newest spring fashions at Dillard's. Head to The Edge Beauty Shop (second floor) at the Carolina Place Mall Dillard's on Saturday, April 21 at 4 p.m. to claim free giveaways and spice up your style with colors as bright at the summer sun.
As a woman, I like to empower myself by giving back to the community. And, I also love all things fashion. This Saturday, April 21, I get to indulge in my two favorite pastimes at the Passport for Purpose Marketplace at the Reelworks Studios in the NC Music Factory. The Charlotte-headquartered organization, Mothering Across Continents joins fellow Charlotte nonprofit Seeds of Hope and Dining for Women based in Greenville, SC to promote an event that will empower women artisans and benefit the Carolinas-based non-profits.
"This is a unique event for women who increasingly want to look good, feel good, and do good at the same time," says Patricia Shafer, chief catalyst, Mothering Across Continents.
Charlotte Style Magazine asks a question that I'd find hard to answer myself: Who are the 25 most stylish people in Charlotte?
This year, the event unveiling the full list will be held, most fittingly, at Butter on April 14 at 8 p.m. Should you choose to accept this mission - err, event invite - you'll arrive to a red carpet entry with photographers and videographers. Once inside, you'll stroll through the fashion presentation courtesy of Saks Fifth Avenue. And if you're without VIP access, simply drink in the luxuriousness of Butter's fancy decor until the list of people whom Charlotte Style Mag have deemed worthy to be called "most stylish" is announced. If you are fortunate to be a part of the "VIP experience," which they're calling the "coveted STYLE Suite," you'll partake in a gifting and complimentary cuisine sampling experience, presented by Osso Restaurant and Lounge. (VIP tickets are $75, but Charlotte STYLE readers can purchase tickets for $50 using code IHEARTSTYLE until April 10.)
From the dark corners of the club or VIP lounge, you can decide for yourselves if the winners truly deserved that honor. A press release lets the cat out of the bag on a few honorees: Carolina Panther Quarterback Cam Newton; Design Guru and Contributor to the Nate Berkus Show Rashon Carraway; Fortune Magazine's Next-Gen Female Entrepreneuer Krystal Harrell; Philanthropist and President of the Junior League of Charlotte Katie Zeok and more.
This event benefits the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.
To purchase tickets, visit http://charlottes25ms.eventbrite.com. The event takes place April 14 at 8 p.m. at Butter, 817 Hamilton St.
One of the most exciting nights of a mini stylista's life is the prom. This is where it all begins.
I remember a time when finding the perfect dress was all I could think about for months before the occasion. It really is all about the dress. Sorry guys, but on this night, the girls rule.
If you or another budding fashionista you know are still in search of just the right look, come out to Belk in SouthPark Mall (the second floor) at 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 31 and get some new ideas during their Prom Gown Fashion Show.
Two new designer collections will join the Belk's selection of prom dresses this year, and I for one am looking forward to seeing how fashion icon Jessica Simpson's collection will be. Her shoes, handbags and accessories somehow always find their way to the top of my "must haves" list, and I've heard her prom wear was designed to help girls achieve their own red carpet style. The looks are inspired by Simpson's own designer gowns and are designed to flatter a variety of body types.
The second addition is Aidan Mattox designs. Lots of celebs wear looks by this designer, so naturally, the dresses are inspired by the elegance of Hollywood. The looks are sexy, but not too grown up since looking classy is of the utmost importance this year. As is dress length.
By all accounts, in looking over the 15 different designers Belk is offering prom dresses by, it seems that long hemlines will be the style of the night. So, I decided to check in with the Belk PR team to get a few more style tips to share with all you excited shoppers. According to Michele Dickey from Panorama Public Relations:
* Everyone will be wearing satin, taffetas and chiffons. Chiffon takes on prints and high-low hemlines.
* The color palette ranges from neutrals to bold bright colors.
* A favorite silhouette is the big, Cinderella-worthy ball gown and the single shoulder strap.
* Â Don't forget bows and beaded embellishment - sequined fabrics scream bling.
Now, that's a perfect guideline for helping young ladies look their absolute best if I've ever heard one. Hope to see you all there!

The newest 72 Shoe Boutique location in Blacklion Dilworth will hold its grand opening during Blacklion's "What A Girl Wants" party this Saturday, March 24. The original 72 Shoe Boutique has been servicing customers in south Charlotte's Blakeney shopping center for years, and the new location promises the same quality merchandise as before.
“We're committed to offering the absolute best in women's shoes, handbags and accessories while providing exceptional customer service,” says the store’s website. “Whether you need a perfect pair for a night on the town or a very special event, we've got you covered.”
Brightly colored wedges, flats and pumps are in for the spring, and 72 has the newest arrivals from some of the hottest brands — Bacio 61, Jack Rogers, Sam Edelman and Via Spiga, to name a few.
In addition to the shoe boutique's grand opening celebration, the What A Girl Wants event will feature giveaways, a jewelry trunk show, 20 percent off Miss Me Jeans, food samplings and more.
Stop by Blacklion Dilworth at 1408-C East Blvd. this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
With sunny spring temperatures taking over Charlotte’s climate, it’s time for spring cleaning to make its way to the outdoors.
We’ve all had those neighbors with the creepy lawn gnomes, weedy flowerbeds, and patio furniture that looks like it has endured a thousand storms. To save yourself the embarrassment of having the tackiest yard in the neighborhood, seek advice from a professional designer at, I don’t know, say a garden party.
Plaza Midwood home décor store Slate Interiors is kicking off the season with a three-day garden party. March 22-24 is devoted to outdoor furniture, planters, statuary, terrariums, and more.
Slate Interiors offers new and antique pieces that accentuate a yard without clutter. The terrariums are my favorite outdoor accessory. They are essentially mini landscapes with plants, and even small lizards and turtles. You could create a terrarium using your favorite plants to add colors and a variety of textures to any outdoor living space.
Backyards are like mini jungles, where you can dream up the ideal environment, and make it come to life. Get started this Thursday through Saturday at Slate Interiors, 1401 Central Ave., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Imagine fighting for your very life, against all the odds, and actually winning. (No, this is not about the Hunger Games, although I can understand why you'd think so. I'm currently reading Catching Fire.) Of course you'd deserve to be in the spotlight.
The American Cancer Society thinks so, too. On March 24, the organization hosts the inaugural Cure By Design Charlotte event at the Ritz Carlton Urban Garden. The fashions will be on point, but the models? They're the real stars of the show. Local cancer survivors will be strutting their stuff down the runway.
“Cure By Design is ALL about the survivors,” said designer Alex Garfield, who developed the event and has helped coordinate it in various cities. “I understand that fashion can be exciting, but for me, and once anyone experiences a Cure By Design event, it’s ALL about the models’ courage; and the love and tears of joy shared in the room.”Among the local cancer survivors who will walk the runway on March 24 are:
Mary Ann Albaugh, Dallas; Jacob Barringer, Gastonia; Dr. Beverly Belle, Charlotte; Vicki Borin, Charlotte; Walter Burke, Denver; Carol Capristo, Boone; Keesha Carter, Wingate; Caroline Churchill, Gastonia; Carol Fleming, Huntersville; Traye Gaines, Charlotte; Julie Hill, Huntersville; Jane Hutchko, Charlotte; Phyllis Howard, Charlotte; Jordan Jemsek, Charlotte; Kay Jemsek, Charlotte; Tatyana Jennings, Charlotte; Ryan Johnson, Charlotte; La Vonda “Von” Kinloch, Harrisburg; Brenda Kinney, Lincolnton; Olivia McCarthy, Wingate; Gigi Luedeman, Charlotte; Heather Miller, Charlotte; Nancy Ratcliffe, Charlotte; Shannon Routh, Charlotte and Amy Vance, Matthews.
Designers, retailers and beauty industry organizations supporting the event include: Alex Garfield, Peace of Cloth; Belk; Brooks Brothers; Doncaster; Charles Grayson; Halcyon Salons & Spas; Hannibal; Joey Hewell, J. Studio; Lilly Pulitzer; Lotus; Effie Loukas; Luis Machicao Couture; Magic Windows; Joy Randall, Flawless Makeup Art; Salon Tribeca; Scarlett; Talbots; Taylor Richards Conger; and Tommy Bahama.
The event starts at 6 p.m. and includes a reception, live and silent auctions and the survivors’ fashion show. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Individual tickets are $125. For further information, please visit curebydesigncharlotte.org or call 704-552-6147.
