Recreate Obama's feast

Posted by Priscilla Tsai on Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 10:50 AM

After Barack Obama takes the oath of office and delivers his inaugural address today, he will be escorted to Statuary Hall in the US Capitol for a three-course feast, which is the traditional inaugural luncheon. The meal is also a tribute to the favorite foods of America's 16th president Abraham Lincoln.

Although not invited to this exclusive luncheon, you too can feel included and enjoy the same meal that our new president will be eating this afternoon.  The recipes for the dishes have been released by the Inaugural Committee and are listed below. Molasses whipped sweet potatoes and duck breast with sour cherry chutney... oh my!

First course

Seafood stew - scallops, shrimp, lobster with a puff pastry top... paired with Duckhorn Vineyards, 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley

Second course

A brace of American birds: Duck breast with sour cherry chutney and Herb roasted pheasant with wild rice stuffing with Molasses whipped sweet potatoes and Winter vegetables ...

paired with Goldeneye, 2005 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley

Third course

Cinnamon apple sponge cake and sweet cream glace...

paired with Korbel natural "special inaugural cuvee" California Champagne.

The menu is created by Design Cuisine, from Arlington, Virginia.
