BofA Super Bowl parties just the latest outrage

Just when you thought the Bank of America, aka Charlotte's Lords and Rulers, couldn't possibly disrespect the people they're supposed to serve any more than they already have, comes the news that BofA threw an over-the-top five-day Super Bowl extravaganza that included 850,000 square feet of games and interactive gee-gaws, and cost around $10 million, according to ABC News. The tents alone cost $800,000. This from a bank, remember, that has taken $45 billion of taxpayer money to cover supposed emergencies and near-collapse.

It turns out that, as of today, if you look up "drunken sailor" in the dictionary, you'll see a Bank of America logo staring up at you. BofA says they were contractually obligated to host the Super Throwdown, since they're the NFL's "official bank," but who cares? Considering the economic shape the country's in, plus the bailout money BofA has received, and the 35,000 employees they've let off, not to mention the shameful executive bonuses (to quote the President of the United States) they've doled out, and don't forget the $10 billion spent on DC lobbyists, YOU WOULD THINK the Bank of America could have begged off the parties. But no, say the bankers, those parties were part of BofA's "growth strategy."

Like a lot of people, I've been wondering when our national corporate overlords would look around them, get a clue and start changing their self-indulgent, wasteful ways. It seems obvious now that the answer to that question is "never." Put me down as one more citizen who's in favor of nationalizing the banks — and throwing a slew of financial frauds and fakers in prison.
