Just say no to the new bailout

Posted by John Grooms on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 1:23 PM

The new and improved bank bailout announced yesterday by Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is how shall I put this delicately? — a big, steaming pile of shit. Geithner tried to sound all populist, talking about the American people's "lost trust," but then he turns around and hands over trillions of dollars to the slimy jerks who got us into our current catastrophe — without even requiring the banks to start lending again!, much less getting them to quit wasting our money on big, full-page apologies in the newspaper.

Here's what the Obama administration really needs to do to keep the American public on his side: help the people who are losing their homes, not the moral midgets whose crooked dealings practically guaranteed foreclosures, and while they're at it, throw some of these Financiers Gone Wild in jail and keep them there until their banks have repaid the American people what they've taken. E-mail your legislators and give them a piece of your mind; that might the only hope to stop the Treasury Department insanity. As Popeye used to say, "I'm disgustipated."
