Raging wildfire in Myrtle Beach

No word on what caused the fire. Thousands of acres and dozens of homes have burned. There's no rain in the forecast for at least a week.

Wildfires are burning out of control across Horry County this morning, and authorities say at least 40 homes have been destroyed overnight by flames in the Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach area.

Emergency shelters have been opened in North Myrtle Beach, where more than 2,500 people have been ordered to leave their homes. Most of the damage has been west of the Intracoastal Waterway, away from the immediate beach area.
