Check out these events going down in Charlotte and the surrounding area this weekend— as selected by the folks at Creative Loafing.

Fri., May 15

Art: Fans of anime and manga can unite for Neo Tokyo, an exhibition influenced by images found in Japanese animation and comic books. It all goes down at Black Sheep Skate Shop.

Theater: Catch a performance of Un Ballo In Maschera (A Masked Ball), an opera in three acts that’s sung in Italian with subtitles at CPCC’s Halton Theater.

Art: Head over to Shain Gallery for the opening reception of its newest exhibition, New Works by Geoffrey Johnson and Kim Schuessler.

Sat., May 16

Festival: The highlight of the 4th annual Charlotte Dragon Boat Festival at Ramsey Creek Park is watching the race between folks rowing long boats with dragon mastheads and tails towards a finish line. But that’s not quite it. In addition, festivities include a Miss Asian Festival pageant, cultural performances, crafts and food. And best of all, it’s free.

Special Event: The 10th annual For Sisters Only (it’s not just for the ladies) is a multimedia event featuring vendors and entertainment from big-name acts like Ginuwine and Mary Mary. It will go down at The Blake Hotel.

Sun., May 17

Dance: North Carolina Dance Theatre will blend humor into its theatrical adaptation by Mark Diamond of the beloved fairy tale Snow White during performances at Belk Theater.
