Check out these events going down in Charlotte and the surrounding area this weekend— as selected by the folks at Creative Loafing.

Festival: The three-day-festival, known as Food Lion Speed Street Festival kicked off on Thursday and will continue on Friday and Saturday, bringing out NASCAR fans and concert goers out alike for autograph signings with NASCAR drivers, music from groups like Lifehouse and Rodney Atkins, and more.

Theater: He did what? In The Trial - an adaptation based off of Frank Kafka's story – Josef K. wakes to find he’s committed a crime of some sort without any recollection. Performances will go down at ImaginOn’s Wachovia Playhouse through May 24.

Music: Jam out to indie roots rock from The Deep Vibration and Roman Candle at The Evening Muse.

Sat., May 23

Theater: Let a performance of the musical, The Color Purple at Belk Theater take you on a deep spin of emotions.

Festival: The Patriot Festival at Symphony Park honors military heroes and provides all you need for a good time, including live music, food, demonstrations of military maneuvers and more.

Music: Won’t you ‘come down’ to see Toad The Wet Sprocket perform at McGlohon Theatre?

Sun., May 24

Sports: Watch NASCAR drivers rev up those engines during the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Food: Fill your tummy with tasty Southern food from Sadie’s Soulful Southern Experience.

Art: Stop by the Mint Museum of Art to check out its newest exhibition, titled Bob Trotman: Business As Usual Takes On Corporate Culture.
