State of the Unioned out

I am completely state-of-the-unioned out. Listening to and reading pundits’ anticipatory blah blah about it. Writing about it beforehand. Watching it. Taking notes. Listening to post-speech blather from FoxNews and MSNBC, not to mention the senseless “Republican response” from the governor of Virginia who’s been office like 30 seconds. Getting up in the middle of the night (6 a.m.) to make it to WCCB, barely on time, for a back-and-forth with some conservative guy I don’t know. Looking and sounding as if I was half-conscious, which I was. Enough, already.
If you want something interesting to read about the Prez’s speech last night, check out Media Matters, which has a good rundown of reactions from across the political spectrum. Particularly interesting to North Carolinians are comments by John Hood of the ultra-conservative John Locke Foundation, who sometimes pens op-eds for the Observer. This time around, while sharing with fellow righties, Hood eloquently opined that Obama “looks like a jerk,” has a grating voice (huh?), and is arrogant. Now there’s some substantial commentary for you. Good thing the right doesn’t dabble in soundbites, huh?

Call it what it is...the State of the Union "speech" was really a gang summit. The Crips and Bloods were playing nice on TV right before they get back to their plundering ways. Same 'ol Same 'ol....*yawn*

All this talk about spending - it's as if the righties really think there is a big difference between the insane amounts of spending done over the past decade that brought us to a trillion dollar defecit and the spending done over the past year, which, irnoically was mostly done to try and offset the crippling effects of the former. Money is money, and not being on the "winning team" right now (which is how they all seem to be treating it) doesn't entitle them to act as if the past 10 years of their destructive behavior didn't matter. It's as if they honestly think everyone should give them a free pass now simply because it's "not their show" anymore. The right's biggest complaints of where we are today as a country has very little to do with the events of the past year, and has almost everything to do with the mishandline of the past decade. They'll just call foul and say they can't be blamed anymore, and that everyone is just passing the buck erroneously now, but it's just common sense. When you look at where you're at in your life today, was it the decsions and influences of just the past day or so, or the past few years or so? Exactly. For some reason, it's easy to understand it when you put it in that perspective, but put it in a political context, and it seems like it just goes over their heads.
