Bill James attacks again — this time black women

Posted By on Wed, Mar 10, 2010 at 4:35 PM

A Reuters article released yesterday talks about the rate of herpes in America. According to the article:

About 16 percent of Americans between the ages of 14 and 49 are infected with genital herpes, making it one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, U.S. health officials said on Tuesday.Black women had the highest rate of infection at 48 percent and women were nearly twice likely as men to be infected, according to an analysis by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 21 percent of women were infected with genital herpes, compared to only 11.5 percent of men, while 39 percent of blacks were infected compared to about 12 percent for whites, the CDC said.

Here's a teachable moment here. Here's a chance for the Mecklenburg County Health Department to go out and educate the infected. What do we get instead? A rant from county commissioner Bill James.

In a e-mail sent to the media, James said (among other dumb things):

So since there is a clear implication that Blacks are being more promiscuous than other races and since that could be used as a stereotype the MSM writer adds this little fake gem: increased risk behavior but to biological factors that make women more susceptible.

Then he went on to impart this to the lowly African-American community that he already thinks lives in a "moral sewer."

Every time the subject of the rate of STD's, illegitimate births and other stats come up and it is clear that the problem is much larger in the Black community there are those that try to make excuses, call names or ignore the problem. To mention it is to then be subjected to harassment and name calling. In the process the average guy and gal know ''whats up" and so the MSM has become irrelevant to any attempts to fix the problem. Come to think of it, government is also irrelevant because it doesn't require the problem be fixed - only that taxes be extracted for programs that pretend to address the problem (without mentioning it specifically). When Government does put up money for programs they don't tailor the program to where the problem is worse because that would infer that the level of promiscuity is concentrated there. As a result - tons of money get wasted.

Blacks do not have 1/2 of their female population (age 14 to 49) infected because they sat on a toilet seat and it is not wholly because of 'genetics' so those in positions of power including the clergy should stop pretending that the problem is the same in every race, culture or creed. It is a prevarication of monumental proportions that costs US taxpayers a ton of money. The problem is worse in the African-American community because there is more promiscuous behavior and it has to be fixed there and programs have to be tailor there.

Paternalism doesn't fix anything, Bill. On the one hand, you and your ilk want to keep the government out of health care reform, but you think that it's the government's job to regulate morality? Please make up your mind.

With James as a member of our local government, you have to wonder if Charlotte will ever lose the Hillbilly Bible Belt stereotype that blankets this city like humidity in July. It's obvious that James does not care for blacks or homosexuals. Guess what, they live in your district (I'm sure) and in this county. As a public official, you don't just represent the last breed of white folks who only see black folks on the 11 o'clock news and the only gay people they know are characters on TV.

Mecklenburg County is changing, when is someone going to replace James and his bigotry on the Board of County Commissioners?
