Yes, I realize the south side of the loop has extreme problems. I've sat through them. I've cursed through them. I get it. But imagine if it wasn't there at all.
After years of waiting, commuters in northeast Mecklenburg will soon see construction on the final leg of Interstate 485."Its life changing," said Michael Dennis, one of several dozen homeowners who met Tuesday evening with the N.C. Department of Transportation to review the plans.
Although the project has been in the works for nearly two decades, Dennis said he had not seen the blueprints until Tuesday evening and did not realize how close the highway is coming to his home along Waverly Lynn Lane.
He said he is concerned about potential noise from the road, but also believes the interstate will cut his commute time in half.
"I can only hope for the best," said Dennis.
Contractors are expected to begin bidding on the first stage of the $540 million project next month, with completion on the interstate scheduled for 2015.
